Let's create a playlist for walking

I recently got a pedometer and have been going for daily walks for exercise. I’m sure a lot of you do the same. What’s some good music to walk to? You know what I mean–the kind that has the right peppy beat that just makes you want to walk to it!

I thought of starting this thread while listening to the “Commentary! The Musical” songs from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. The song “Strike” really has the right feel to it for walking. What are some of your favorites or ideas?

Mod Note: the OP is not looking for songs about walking, just songs that would be good to walk to.

“Strollin’”, by His Royal Badness (though he doesn’t sound so Bad on this particular track).

obvious: Walkby Pantera

Probably not up your alley, Opal;), but it is a great song with a great “walking” groove…

“We Walk” by REM
“Walk Like an Egyptian” by the Bangles
“Walk Like a Man” by the 4 Seasons

How could I have forgotten “The Walk”, by the Time?

Great fucking song.

(The songs don’t have to be about walking, just have a good walking rhythm)

These boots are made for walkin’.

And of course, there’s “Walking On the Moon”, by The Police.

I’m walking on sunshine

Beatles version: The Walk

Shangri-las:Remember (Walkin’ in the Sand)

People seem to be getting the totally wrong idea about this thread. It’s not for songs with a walking theme. It’s just finding a good playlist to put on one’s mp3 player to go out for a walk. Good music with a motivational upbeat tempo that matches well with a walking stride, etc.

B-but… what we’ve been doing is a lot more fun.

…but… I’m looking to actually end up with a usable playlist for my walks.

How about marches? Anything by JP Sousa should work great. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stayin’ Alive? I love walking to that one.

That ends up being more of a strut.

I bet a lot of disco would be good, actually… and I’m a fan of cheesy disco standards!

Since few other seem to be replying to the OP, I might as well join the revolt.

I was walking 3 times a week for 1 to 1.5 hours each walk. And I think you may find that music just won’t help pass the time/walking as well, the more you walk. What does work (wonders) are audiobooks. The time/miles would fly by when listening to a good book. I would get a good hour’s worth each walk, and would go through unabridged audiobooks in a week or two.

Rather than buy any books on CD (or mp3), I would just go to the library with my laptop and rip the disks, and convert them to mp3. I wouldn’t even need to check them out !

I alternate between music an audiobooks depending on my mood.

Some songs that I enjoy walking to:

Ben Folds - “Zak and Sara”
Amy Winehouse - “Valerie (Mark Ronson Remix)”
Jamiroquai - “Canned Heat” (the song Napoleon Dynamite dances to)
Paul Simon - “Kodachrome”
Spoon - “Don’t Make me a Target”
