I’m in, though I can see how that wasn’t clear.
Well, I feel dirty.
I decided to google “gettysdope” to try to find out what Jayjay and MsRobyn were talking about because I truly had no clue.
I think I found what Jayjay meant… I don’t feel like digging through any more year-old badly composted crap to try to find what MsRobyn was talking about.
Jayjay, I am sorry. The thing I stumbled across sure sounds like it came from someone who was there vs. someone just looking at online photos. Some people are just foul :(. And too damn chicken to sign their own names to their filth. Comments on earlier gettysdopes are much in the same vein.
It’s old stuff, and it’s fairly irrelevant now. It’s a combination of things that keeps me from going this year, including the nonny thing and the fact that I just found out about it at all only a week ago, and the Paul thing. I had already made plans to go to visit my mom this coming weekend, anyway.
Maybe next year all of that won’t be right up on top of each other.
I’m not coming, either, for the same reasons as **jayjay **and MsRobyn, plus the danceswithcats reason, as **jayjay **said. He was instrumental in getting the previous years’ Fests organized, and it just won’t be the same without him. The 10th would have been his birthday.
Gettysdope directions
From Phila:
PA turnpike westbound to Gettysburg Pike US-15 exit (was I-17, now I-236), take US-15 south. Take ramp right onto York Street, US-30 west. Follow US-30 into the center of town to a circle. Go halfway around the circle, continuing to follow US-30, street name now Chambersburg Street. Go through the first light, and turn left at the second light onto Franklin Street, and proceed south. Franklin Street becomes Long Lane at Breckenridge Street, and the park is to your right.
From Pittsburgh:
PA turnpike eastbound to Gettysburg Pike US-15 exit. After that, follow above.
From Washington:
I-495 inner loop to I-270 towards Frederick, MD. Follow US-15 north, into PA. Take exit for PA-134/Taneytown Road towards Gettysburg. At the traffic light where PA-134 crosses US-15 Business/Steinwehr Avenue, the name changes to Washington Street. Proceed north two blocks and turn left on Gettys Street, which will dead end at Long Lane.

We’re in the Kiwanis Pavilion this year.
Send me an e-mail (add a yahoo.com to my doper name) if you want my cell phone number, just in case.
I want to go but will be caught in Morgantown until mid-afternoon. May make the attempt anyway depending on weather and if I get any sleep amid the burning furniture.
Unfortunately not. I’m healing really, really well, and I’d love to put in an appearance (from personal experience, it doesn’t take many Dopers to make a good DopeFest!) Alas, the two things that are guaranteed to make me hurt bad are having to do a lot of walking, and having to do a lot of driving!
Seriously, it looks like it’s going to be kind of decimated this year, for a number of reasons. But I hope those that do attend will make the best of it and have a great time anyway! ::throws confetti::
:::raises hand tentatively:::
Given the low attendance expected… do we want to go forward with this at this time? or perhaps try for some other GTG on some other occasion? (heck, folks are always welcome to come to the Zappa/Knig household for turkey at Thanksgiving).
If the vote is to go forward, we’ll be there, but right now we’re looking only at 2 families plus one (or two, if Doc Cathode can get there) singletons.
I figured a few folks wouldn’t show because of Paul, but I really wasn’t expecting the massive boycott that we ended up with this year.
Let’s go ahead and cancel it.
I don’t mind renting the pavilion for all of you, but next year I’m going to make sure that people actually want to come before we do this again.
Wow, I just saw this looking through new posts. I went to my one and only last year. I had no plans to return as the drive was too long for me. But I did enjoy myself at the Gettysdope.
For those in Eastern Penn, I still expect to host a Jersey Dopefest next June. A long ways away, but my planning is pretty simple as I just do it at my place at least. I know it is too far for most of you.
I really did not think there was any major problems last year. One member got a little loud at one point, but nothing too bad I thought. The kids seem to have fun.
I’m sure if you PM the folks who were going to attend, they would be happy to PayPal you a little $$ to put towards the pavilion rental.
