Let's finish it over here, gobear...

Not to throw a wrench in the entire thing, but isn’t “universally detested” one of those hyperbolic statements, along with (for example) “the best meal I’ve ever eaten”. Is it meant to be taken seriously?

Stoid-you have been called on your behavior several times on your “posts”, not You. Yet you ignore them. YOu instead go and resort to private e-mail attacks.

And no, I don’t hold a grudge, I just don’t like you, and if I think you’re a hypocrite, I’m gonna call you on it, mmmkay?

What was your point in making the OP, then?

Sigh  For about the 8th time, * to tell him that he was saying something that was patently untrue *. Fighting ignorance and all that. What this board is about, remember?

Stoid

Ah. Gotcha. I only asked because I read a bit of a dichotomous relationship between you you were asking, and what you were saying.

Was I the only person who thought Chas E. was kidding around in the other thread? “Look, the normal is jealous…” I laughed. I didn’t figure there was any way he was serious…

Nope, you weren’t the only one. That’s how I took it as well.

Me too.

I believe my exact words were, “aw, the Normal is jealous.” Perhaps I shouldn’t have edited off my following remark, which was “They’re so cute.”
Perhaps this is my biggest failing, I assume people see the same dark humor I do. Yes, I’m an arrogant, obnoxious bastard. I’m the enemy of all that is normal and decent. I hate Bill Gates, Jerry Lewis, and El Presidente Jorge Bush. I want to kill the fuzzy little chipmunks eating my garden. I’d rather listen to the Sex Pistols than Britney Spears. But none of this is a sufficient excuse for anyone to attempt to influence public opinion with a smear campaign. Saying that I am “universally detested” is tantamount to saying it is open season on Chas, we all hate him so you should too. There is too much of a mob mentality behind this sort of thinking. This attitude does nothing towards fighting ignorance, it drags the whole SDMB down to the lowest common denominator. We are all better than that.

Well, heck, Chas, if you’d said that in the first place, not only would I not have dissed you, but I might have proposed marriage!
I am sorry that I was so volatile in my posts, and, anyway, people lined up in your defense.

Saying you are “universally detested,” which I have apologized for 5 times now with nary an acknowledgement from you, is NOT the same as a smear campaign. How can someone who can be so mean have such tender feelings?

Now that is just silly. If I walk down the street and see a person kicking a puppy, I will intercede. I will not say, “well, I have no authority and no relationship with that person, so I’ll just walk on.”
I’m not saying that your conduct is the written equivalent of puppy-kicking, Stoid, but your thesis is invalid.

I pondered whether I wanted to be more specific about this, I see that I must.

The short answer is that this is the same idea as one’s freedom… your freedom to swing your fist ends at my nose. If my behavior should include poking people in the eyes, then I can be admonished. Especially if I’m poking you in your eye. When a person’s behavior is intrustive on another person’s rights (not sensibilities), it is then appropriate to speak up.

I said here "With apparently the codicile of “attack [stoid’s] re-interpretation of the poster’s position, not the position, even when corrected by several others.” and only one example of this behavior was here where several different posters said “you’re being rude to her”, specifically mischaracterizing my position, accusing me of a cold blooded attitude by ascribing incorrect motivations to my position. As one poster put it (Sterra who agreed with your position in the debate)

Despite repeated attempts by others, you failed to even acknowledge rude behavior. I consider this to be ‘attacking the poster, not the position’, as did other posters. So, when you post something like the (aforementioned ‘this is my position- attack the position and not the poster’), I’m suggesting that you’re being inconsistent and ironically so. This of course does not even begin to cover the numerous examples of ‘all republicans are slime’ comments that you’ve made as well (despite several well known republican posters here not being slime).

So The reference to “I don’t do the pit” is in reference only to threads that attack you personally’? really. odd then, don’tyou think that you chose to opt out of this thread - you were called to task for your actions, for your words. You didn’t bother responding. you refuse to answer other people’s objections to your actions when they start pit threads because you ‘don’t do the pit’ but see no problem or inconsistency in hauling some one else to task over their behavior. I see it as another example of the ‘rules don’t apply to me’ attitude I’ve seen you take in other areas. When you post on a public message board and show inconsistencies, don’t be surprised or act offended if folks point them out to you. You attacked what gobear did. As others have spoken to you about your posting behavior. The difference of course, is that gobear responded directly and appologized for actions that were over the top. See the inconsistency? Other poster calls you to task for your post (not you personally), you ignore it. You see some one post something that bugs you, and off to the pit.

That’s bull. You busted me precisely because I a) was inaccurate in the “universally detested” phrase and b) I hurt Chas E’s feelings. How did I intrude on his “rights”? Did I ban him? Did I urge his banning? Did I reformat his hard drive?

gobear is absolutely correct - the comment about "Not to mention the fact that it’s just fuckin’ ugly. " and the subsequent chewing out in this thread for ‘not caring’ about that, has, of course, no relation at all to ‘fighting ignorance’ and was much more a chewing out for someone’s behavior, which she apparently felt was inappropriate.

Ah, but it’s okay for her to tell someone she’s never met they suffer from “clinical paranoia”…

I am very consistent. If you pay attention.

And gobear… I never mentioned Chas’ feelings. Not once.

wring: “chewing out” ? “All Republicans are slime” You are getting more and more creative.

I’m happy to discuss, defend, or explain things I actually say…but as ever, you guys are taking what I say and claiming I said 10 other things besides. You are projecting what you * think * I mean and you have decided I probably meant to say. And in wring’s case, you are actually making stuff up completely! Well, that’s your problem. I feel absolutely no obligation to spend my time and energy defending or even discussing things that you * make up *to bitch at me about. If you don’t understand that, it’s still your problem.

By the way, wring, I have no problem with being irritating or annoying to my fellow posters. But that is and shall remain a very different thing from attacking them personally. And when hell freezes over and you stop telling me what I really mean, telling me that I said things I didn’t, and accusing me of thinking and feeling things you have no clue about, I’ll consider your beef. Til then, forget it. I have no respect for your position so long as you persist in exaggerating and misrepresenting the truth.
stoid

before I respond more fully, please give a concrete example of

What have I made up?

From the same thread that wring posted earlier.

What is that if it is not an attack on another poster? Its also funny considering your own statement in the above post
