Ahh. The power is back! Which means I need to go down and charge my cell, but it can wait until I’m done here.

It’s barely autumn here, Noone Special. It just really arrived a few days ago. The trees are turning (they’re going to really be pretty in another week or two), and it’s snowing way up high in the mountains. And it’s not at all cold for here, yet. This is a ski resort town, after all. People at the coffee shop were talking about how nice this weather is, and aside from the rain, they’re right. (The all-time low is -37, from January 1990, though I expect it didn’t stay down that low long!) I guess a front is coming through because it’s cloudy and rainyish today and it’s supposed to get a lot cooler for the next few days, complete with dropping below freezing at night. This is all very weird in a good way for me, because most places I’ve lived it’s still summer, and this would be winter weather, not just barely autumn! I just want snow to hold off until after my trip at the beginning of the month.

I ended up driving down to Twin Falls today because I wanted to get a few things and while I was going to wait until I go to Seattle to shop a bit, I had nothing better to do today so I went. It’s about 80 miles each way, on a two-lane highway. I don’t feel off the beaten path when I’m here, but going back and forth reminds me that I am!

I guess I’m taking an unscheduled trip down to Portland/Beaverton tomorrow.

My dad called this morning because he needed help loading up a sofa to take down to my sister who’s getting married. He told me he was going to take it down in the back of his Explorer. I was all :dubious: because I figured there was no way in hell this sofa was going to fit.

He assured me he measured the length and it would fit. In the meantime, hubby was helping a co-worker move, so I called him and told him what my dad said about the Explorer and the sofa. Hubby was as dubious as me, and told me to take his truck and just switch out vehicles with my Dad. I called my Dad back and he said that he was very uncomfortable with that, and reassured me the sofa would fit. Additionally, it’s raining in Portland, so he understandably didn’t want the sofa to get wet.

So, I rounded up my son and we drove to Tacoma in my Expedition. My son and Dad muscled the sofa down to the condo garage where they proceeded to try and fit the sofa in the Explorer. Guess what; yeah that’s right, it didn’t fit.

I offered my Expedition for my Dad to use. This was after offering it as soon as we arrived, where, again, my Dad assured me the sofa would fit.

So, after it was confirmed there was no way the sofa fit, I told my Dad to go get my Expedition and we’d put it in there. He told me was very uncomfortable with the idea of driving my new rig down to Portland. I told my Dad that I would drive down there with him. So, he went to start the Explorer and the battery was dead. He went and got my rig, we jump started his, parked it again, and loaded the sofa into the back of my rig.

I’ll be at my Dad’s place by about 8:30 tomorrow morning. I’m sure I won’t be back home until very late evening.

I’m happy to help my Dad and my sister. I’m sure my Dad thought I was being somewhat bossy, but the sofa wasn’t getting down there by itself; and this way he doesn’t have rent a U-Haul or anything.

I’m glad your power is back on whiterabbit.

We’re having rib-eyes for dinner tonight; or, as my son used to call them when he was little, “juicy meat”.

Twin Falls? Is that the next town over from Twin Peaks? :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! Work went surprisingly well today. Nothin’ broke down or blew up or jammed up (well not too much, stuff always jams). Even the little hot glue thingy worked good all day. I only had a dozen cases that I had to reglue by hand. Yeehaa! I like easy days.

We went to that other paragon of fine dining we like to frequent for supper, The Three Squares Diner. I had breakfast. Really. They had a special for $3.99… two eggs, two pancakes, two sausage patties or two strips of bacon, grits or hash browns, toast and choice of coffee, tea or soft drink. Nice little deal I thought. I am stuffed. ACBG had the hamburger steak which comes with a salad, choice of N.O.T. (really, baked, mashed, hashbrowns or fries) and a veggie (several choices there and no I do not remember them all, he got the green beans) and a drink for $5.99. Oh and the waitress called us “hon” a lot so she got an extra nice tip. For some reason, bein’ called “hon” several times always makes me tip better.

That’s the excitement in south Jawja today. Oh and it’s rainy. Oh and first day of Autumn? 92 degrees Amurrkin. Oh and it’s hyooooooooooomid out to boot.

We’re either gonna watch a movie (dunno what) or stare at the teevee for a while.

Later Y’all!

Hey, guys.

Productive day for the most part. Went to my bkfst date-neither of us had watches and we left at 1145! (we got there at 0830). It was good to see my friend again.

Did some yard work-my astilbes look terrible! But I didn’t transplant them today. Made Heath bar cake and dinner (sweet potatoe fluff, green beans and ham).

The big news–the super big news is:

#2 SON HAS LEARNED TO RIDE A BIKE!
I am thrilled. Tomorrow we go over everything one more time and then next Saturday we are all going for a bike ride and ice cream. He has been very leery and scared of doing this, so we are all quite proud of him.

Off to do grad school work.

Warm day here, well warmer than it has been. White Rabbit, glad that your power is back on! Do these sort of power outages occur regularly, though? Hopefully if it happens again, you can be included in the notification relay.

Kai, glad that you have forgiven your former friend, but adding to the chorus here to NOT let her back into your life. And were those really goats that your friends were hunting?

FCM, been thinking of you and FCD this weekend and hoping that all will go well with his surgery. I’ve been keeping a closer eye on my Dad since my Mom passed away in 2003, and he’s a lot more frail than I’d like to think. He continues to work, part-time, and stays busy (he went on a Baltic cruise in early June!), but he’s still coping with the loss of sight in one of his eyes.

There was a street festival a couple of blocks from me which ended with a huge fireworks display. My daughter and I could see it fairly well from our patio, and they went on for over half an hour! I didn’t stay out too long, though, cause it was so warm and bugs were biting. Tomorrow, the weather is supposed to turn cooler again. I hope!

I think they were having to work on something so they turned it off. If this happens again, though, I’ll just go ask a neighbor if they got notified, if my landlord doesn’t (he could have called me, dammit!). Anyway, it’s back…which is good, because it’s going to get cold tonight, cold enough that they’re saying we could get a bit of snow mixed with the rain we’re getting. It’s definitely been snowing at higher elevations, but I’m at about 5800 feet, which isn’t all that much lower than the 6000 foot snowline the site mentions for tomorrow. Methinks I might see a few flakes tomorrow when I go shopping, which I have to do even if it’s cold and wet and disgusting outside.

Mother Nature doesn’t mess around up here, obviously.

Yay! I remember how elated I was when I learned. Good for him!

Snow in September is insane. I remember how appalled we were when it snowed last October (we being the grad students in my program - most of us weren’t from Chicago).

Cat still under sofa.

Yay for #2 son!!!

Tired. Off to bed.

GT

The sheer hell of trying to get to TRY…I am so relieved and happy. We plan on going for a “trek” next Saturday to the ice cream place! Yum.

ha! First on 8!
I am rocking the Casbah tonight, folks! I got an A on my debate in one class. Since my debate partner never showed up, posted anything, or contributed in any way, I am quite proud of myself. Thank you. <takes bow>

Now I have to finish a concept map–but I’ll do it tomorrow. I am so bad at computer software (even using open office draw), that I have decided to print out what I have, add the embellishments I need, scan it back in and the pdf it. It’s just easier for me that way…

Sorry that kitty is still sofa-bound. We want pics! (and I still need to look for that S&G album). hang on-will go look now.

Nope. I must have sold it that guy (who, at my garage sale, bought up about 25 albums). I DO have Paul Simon’s Greatest Hits from the 80s. Sorry! :frowning:

I have lots of other vinyl, though: Earl Klugh, Spyro Gyra, Davic Sanborne, Commodores, Jackson Browne, Olivia Newton John, Billy Joel, Jim Croce, Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, Alan Parsons Project, Steve Miller Band, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, French Songs for Chidren (?) and more. I sold all of my Eagles, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, most of my Beatles (have CDs), S & G, and who know what else–it’s been a long time… (and you can have my Bay City Rollers album, really).

Off to bed soon. Another good day awaits in the morrow.

Tell me about it. Though, to be fair, if we get any at all in the next day or so it’s not going to be the kind that sticks. I need to find out about when I can expect that to happen. But the idea alone is…disconcerting. On the other hand, I’d rather have snow than cold rain. At least snow is more fun, unless you have to go anywhere in it!

yawn I’m off to bed. Yes, it’s Saturday and I could stay up late, but I don’t want to. And I get to do what I want on Saturday, so off to bed to read I go!

I had a heck of a day. Traffic was backed up for miles, the nudie bar on Hwy 70 was having a bike show. I had a kid run into my leg and almost cripple me. I’m glad I’m home.

snowbunny, glad it was only one day. I went five days without power once.

rigs, congrats to #2 son!

Haze, around here it’s near 70 on New Year’s Eve most years. Go get batteries, we need pics!

Dotty, I’m glad you liked the song.
I’m fascinated by your semolina cake. Since semolina doesn’t have (much) gluten, do you have to add an extra leavener to make it rise?
**
doggio**, have fun at the Dopefest! And you’re going to take pictures for the rest of us, right? Glad the kid didn’t cripple you.

I was talking about behaving well. What are you talking about? :dubious: :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay! for the discount. But it’s more scary that you have everything that you want already. Does your house look like a store warehouse? I have a friend that has more stuff than the store does. Seeing all that stuff was way cool.

ems, good luck on your trip.

We obviously live in different places. Being called “hon” makes me not want to tip the waitress at all. It happens here but not all that often. If it happened where I lived before, I’d be so shocked I wouldn’t even know what to think about it.
palebunny, glad you got your power back on. Your story had me thinking about what I would do if the power went off here. Sounds like you had a good day despite it, though.

rigs, congrats on your son’s successful bike riding. And congrats also on your debate grade.

Good night and good morning everyone! I’m trying to get to bed early tonight. Wish me luck! Hugs to all.

Oh, I’m not really surprised… I’ve spent two winters of my life in Boston MA, and one in Rochester NY, so I know from “cold”… Also from Indian Summer  I just always find it amazing how different different places really are!
All-time lows of -40-ish (is that C or F? :stuck_out_tongue: *) are a bit off of my scale, though…
I wish we had some snow here in Tel-Aviv. I love snow (as long as I get just to visit it, of course… don’t want to live there!)

**Haze **-- do we all need to come over and perform a re-incarnation rite for those batteries of yours?

**Rigs **-- yay for #2 son! My son never quite got the hang of riding a bike, until this year (he’s 10-1/2 now.) Suddenly, he’s riding like he’s never had a problem with the bike in his life

What do you think I was talking about?
For that matter, what do you want me to be talking about? :stuck_out_tongue:

Taters, good on ya’ for helping your folks out!

I don’t care what the calendar says. I’m back to work after the weekend, so this must be Monday. Blech :frowning:

*For the uninitiated – -40 F = -40 C; it’s where the two scales cross over…

Awwww… don’t be like that “hon”! :stuck_out_tongue:

Good Mornin’/Whatever Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Like usual. ‘Cept I ain’t dressed for work cause well, I ain’t workin’ today. I will go to church this mornin’ however. I’ll be by myself for that cause ol’ y’all know who (when he wakes up and caffienates) is goin’ in to his office to do some paperwork for a couple hours so we can hang out this afternoon. If’n it ain’t rainy, which it’s not supposed to be, we might just hang out by the pool cause it will yet again be low 90s today.

Ok, off for some more caffiene. Might even forage for sump’n to eat cause tummy is rumbly.

Later Y’all!

Up, showered, and caffeinating. I didn’t intend to be awake early today, but when my bladder got all insistent at 5, I couldn’t ignore it, and I didn’t have much luck when I tried to fall back to sleep, so I hit the shower.

As soon as I let Bernie out the back door, she bolted, and I saw a cat down by our shed take off, with big stupid dog trailing her. Fortunately, Bernie stopped at the fence and didn’t try to go thru (she can, but she only does it at the far corner of the yard) and when I got close and started yelling at her, she eventually got within grabbing range. Our paths crossed at the shed, where she returned to check out the cat smells. Stupid dog walked right past a dead bunny :frowning: (which is what I think the cat was there for) and I got both canines back into the house and fed.

I did venture amongst the trees a wee bit before realizing it was dark, I was in flip-flops, and something was brushing my ankle. It probably *wasn’t * poison ivy, but it was too dark to see. How long does it take to start itching??

Last night, I built the peach french toast casserole, so breakfast will be ready about 45 minutes after I turn on the oven. My inlaws aren’t breakfast people, so I made the regular casserole I’d make for the 2 of us. **FCD ** and I were discussing the mowing of the grass today - we’ll see if that happens or if it’ll fall to me when he’s home recovering. Later today, we’ll all drive up to my mom’s for the night, since she’s less than an hour from the hospital, whereas we live over 2 hours away. Mom doesn’t know this yet - she’s in New Hampshire on a bus trek and she won’t turn her cell on unless she’s actually talking. But she’s supposed to call the sister who’s watching her house, so she’ll know before she gets home.

Meanwhile, the house is quiet and the Sunday funnies beckon…

Good morning! Mmmmm, French Toast Casserole. Haven’t made it in ages. Maybe I’ll make some tomorrow morning and have it for supper tomorrow…

I live on the “hon” border, I think. When I moved to Ohio, I was surprised to be called “hon” periodically. Don’t remember being addressed as “hon” much when I lived in Michigan. It bothered me at first, but after a while, it started to sound like the endearment it’s intended to be.

I was up for a while in the middle of the night, but managed to sleep a decent number of hours.

Should do something in the garden today.

How’s the kitty, Haze? And the battery sitch?

Off to find breakfast.

GT

I’m all purtified for churchification. Ol’ y’all know who is up and gone to do paperwork stuff, poor thing. I’m still hungry. Maybe I’ll go out and get some breakfast. Yeah… that’d be good. I don’t want to make sump’n just for me. Now what do I want…

It’s hyooooooooooooomid and froggy out this mornin’. Froggy as in low lyin’ clouds and tree (aka rain) frogs croakin’ all over the place. I got a feelin’ that’s a harbinger of rain to come today.

Ok, off to feed da bear.

Later Y’all!

I’m up and killing time before leaving for church. Today is a kids program at church, it should be really cute. Then I’m planning on coming home play some video games, and work on my design team project for the store.

Roo my husband says that I have enough stuff to start my own scrapbooking store, and I do have a ton of stuff, but not more than the store. It helps that I just went through all of my stuff and gave a ton of it away to my Mom, and a couple of friends who are just starting scrapbooking. I do have enough stuff where I’m getting my own scrapbook room though in the house. It’s just about ready for me to start moving stuff in. Hubby and I have to pull up the carpet and lay the new hardwood floor down. Should be fun.

I better get going, have a great day all!!
