Let's have an Alt-Rock Christmas!

I’m looking to make a CD of alt-rock Christmas tunes.

Of course I’m coming to you, the teeming milions fow help in filling out the list.

Let’s start…

Pogues - Christmas in New York

Fountains of Wayne - I Want an Alien for Christmas

what else is out there?

Two by Weezer. Christmas Celebration and the Christmas Song. There’s also a No Doubt song that I think is called Oi to the World.

Ramones - Merry Christmas Baby (I don’t want to fight tonight)
The Vandals (they have an entire CD called Oi to the world, the title track being very good, as is “my first Xmas as a woman”)
Los Straightjackets have a surf guitar xmas cd all intrumental called “Tis the season for los straightjackets”
Brian Setzer’s Boogie Woogie Christmas has some good stuff on it too. Any song off of it will do.
Chris Cornell’s Ave Maria is amazing.

John Prine - Christmas in Prison

It was Christmas in prison,
and the food was real good,
We had turkey and pistols
carved out of wood…

THe No Doubt version is a cover of the Vandal’s original.

Christmas Rapping by the Waitresses.

The Little Drum Machine Boy – Beck

How 'bout an alt.country suggestion for flavor:

Merry Christmas from the Family - Robert Earl Keene, Jr.

Funniest Christmas song ever.

The Pogues song is actually called “Fairytale of New York.” Beautiful song, though.

And I’ve always loved U2’s “Baby Please Come Home For Christmas,” which barely makes the cut to be “alternative.”

To ugly things up a little: Cop Shoot Cop’s “Last Legs”

And Santa, he is bleeding…some punk shot him in the eye
All we need on Christmas Eve is another goddamned drive-by

Ok this is a good start. I totally forgot about Oi to the World, love that song.

Not necessarily alt-rock but…

Brave Combo - “Must Be Santa”
Pretenders - “2000 Miles”

and what Christmas collection would be complete without Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph”?

Blink 182’s “I Won’t Be Home For Christmas” is good.

the dickies - silent night

joan jett - little drummer boy

That’s on the CD Just Say Noel, which also includes selections from the likes of Aimee Mann and Sonic Youth.

That’s “Wrapping.” Anyway, these are both on the CD The Edge of Christmas, which also includes selections from the likes of Kate Bush and The Cocteau Twins as well as that Pogues piece.

Happy compiling!

Merry Christmas (I Don’t Wana Fight Tonight) - The Ramones
Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You - Billy Squire
Thank God It’s Christmas - Queen

Pearl Jam - Wishlist, Let Me Sleep
Everclear - I will be hating you for Christmas

Dar Williams - The Pagans and the Christians

Bouncy little alty-rocky-country-pop song about what happens when the Pagan relatives visit the Christian relatives for Christmas dinner.
