I’m attempting to rescue the bad turkey soup. I drained most of the broth, then dumped in a can of turkey gravy, some chopped onions, some peas, and some salt and poultry seasonings. It’s warming up and I’ll let it simmer for a while. If it’s inedible, it’ll be dumped. We shall see…
Meanwhile, the other turkey is nearly thawed. I’m going to do a low, slow cook overnight. It starts out with an hour at 350° to kill any surface bacteria, then dropping the temp to about 180° and letting it go all night. By morning, it should be cooked thru. Plus the house will smell yum. It’ll have to be better than the bad soup.
An early dindin/late N.O.L. of pancakes, snausages and scrambled aigs has been ingested. Actually we gave it a new name. Since it was with brekkies food, we named it Brupper. The fact that is sorta kinda looks like burp is just an added bonus.
I kinda went overboard on the DVDs when Incredibly Strange Videos was closing and the result can best be described as car-loads. And back then we drove a Vue. :smack:
One has a few Sovereigns but -------- almost 99% is schlock horror and the other 1% comedy. I own almost no war movies other than Breaker Morant and Patton and only a couple more artistic porn-ish foreign films.
And as for how-to videos -------- where do you think they get the ideas from on the first place?
Smokes some various meat stocking up for the week - a steak, some pig, some kielbasa. The temp dropped almost 30 degrees in one 2 hour spread. Odd weather to say the least.
My rescue of the turkey soup was edible. Nothing to brag about, but edible, so I have some leftovers in the fridge for a couple of future meals. I guess that’s something.
According to my fave weather site, it’s 47°. Down from 72° a few hours ago. The front has arrived. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I have shopped. Turkey is resting in the fridge. I still have a few more items to buy, but there’s time. Now I’m resting up. People are crazy. There are herds out of them out shopping right now.
Ziva had a literal hissy fit! She was in the dining room and all of a sudden she hissed and yowled, disturbing Higgs and Taz as they snoozed on me. I went to investigate, and when I turned on the outside light, I saw a big fluffy white cat on the deck. Ziva was displeased. The fluffy white cat left.
Why has our house become a haven for cats? There’s been a black and white tuxedo in the back yard on occasion, a gray and white out front - I think it might be one of Charlie’s offspring, and now this white one. I don’t feed them, and our back yard has to smell of Higgs, but the cats keep coming. Weird.
I bought replacement wireless headphones for Mrs. Plant (v.3.0).
They have a subminiature phone plug rather than the standard 1/4" phone plug found on home receivers for headphones.
Goggle says Best Buy has an adapter. I wander around BB, and can’t find the damn thing. I capitulate, and find three sales people speaking to each other. Gabbing.
“Hi. I need a 1/4” phone plug with an adapter for a subminiature phone plug."
They stare at me, mouths agape.
I screw my courage to the sticking place.
“I want to plug my earbuds into my receiver.”
“Oh yes, right this way, they are over here…somewhere…”
Morons!
The neighbor, “PB” (Pretty Boy) killed the family cat in the dryer.
The replacement is an intact tomcat, just growing up, who figures he owns the world.
A black cat, a b/w cat and a red have shown up. I’m not sure why, either. Maybe they hang out together to smoke, drink beer or chase girls.
The red really wants to come inside the house. He has a collar, and turns down kibble, so he lives at a house and is cared for. Perhaps I’ll put a note on his collar to find out where he is from.
With cats in mind, this is one of my favorite cartoons.
My last apartment complex was a haven for cats. Because there was a no pets policy, people tended to feed outdoor cats. Evidently, word got around on the feral kitteh grapevine that there was free food and BAM! we had a whole mess of them.
I enjoyed lunch today. SIL called me to tell me not to bother coming up, as she was sniffling again and really shouldn’t be around too many people. Given the sniffles, her treatments have been delayed for a couple of days and Turkey day with teh family is off. I’ll likely take my friend’s offer to go to her niece’s.
I did go to the city to the Halal butcher for lamb shanks. I did them up Persian style (the saffron cost more than the lamb  ) and made sauteed eggplant and quinoa with shallots and mushrooms to go with. It was tasty, but the cleanup still needs to be done.
Howdy. red’s post reminded me we have a leg of lamb someone gave to hubby. We have no idea how to cook it. It is frozen and will likely be used at Christmas so any advice will be much appreciated.
There are weird dreams then there are weird dreams. Like having a stranger come to my house with 3 t-shirts that she wanted taken in (T-SHIRTS???) and a seamstress on site ready to take care of it. Then the young homeless woman who I was letting stay with us till I found out she was taking meat out of my freezer to give to her friends, then leaving the rest of the meat on the sofa to thaw. I had to throw her out. Then I woke up. No, I wasn’t drinking last night.
The house smells turkey-licious! According to the meat thermometer, it’s done, but I’m giving it 30 more minutes before I pull it out to cool. Then I’ll hack it up and freeze the parts. I’ve also got to run to the grocery store today - while I was out yesterday, I didn’t realize I was nearly out of bread and I’ll need some for lunch this week. Of course, I could stop on my way home tomorrow… hmmmmmmmmm
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 63 and N.O.S. for the day. This is more typical weather for this time of year. Now if only we’d get some rain. Plans for the day are to deheathenate and to grab a <snerk> Quickie! <snerk> for N.O.L. Roast poke is on the menu today and they make a great roast poke. I shall be the readin’ kind of Lector this mornin’. Also, I will clean the collard greens this afternoon. I will. For real. I promise. I must. I shall.
OK, now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
I just realized there’s a slight flaw in my turkey plan - I don’t have space in the freezer for anything else!!! I’ll sort and rearrange and maybe pull something out that I’ll cook this week, but fitting in bird bits will be a challenge.
Meanwhile, the winds have arrived. When I let Higgs in just now, I watched the tops of the trees in the back yard whipping thither and yon! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Anyway, it’s time to grab a quick shower, then start cutting up the bird.
Productivity reigns here - I’ve disassembled the turkey and made up half a dozen vacuum-packed packs that are now nestled in the freezer. My mad Tetris skills made it all possible! And all of the dishes are done, except for the rack that the bird sat on - it’s soaking in hot, soapy water to loosen the stuck-on bits.
