Let's keep a happy thought in the MMP!

Rosie sorry you are blue. When can you go home?

Hubby has gone to the store. I am going to cook a big pot of beef stew since it is a little cooler than is normal.

We have a houseguest until tomorrow. His name is Dave and he is an old friend. He is very interesting to talk with except he is into conspiracy theories. Still he is well read and keeps up the goings on in the world.

Sometimes those guys can be entertaining if they don’t insist that you buy into their crazy. :stuck_out_tongue: As for the leg of lamb, I usually roast it with some fresh rosemary and serve mint jelly on the side. It pairs well with spring veggies. I’m envious, as I rarely get to do one up anymore.

Heading off to choir practice at one, with a potluck to follow (I’m taking spinach/mushroom quinoa so that the vegetarians have something to eat :stuck_out_tongue: ).

It’s gonna be a coule of weeks yet before I can even begin to put weight on it. Then I have to retrain my leg muscles. I don’t expect to be home before mid December , and maybe not til after New Years :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

eta: the only positive I can pull from this is that I will definitely lose weight. I’ve already lost 8 lbs, maybe more because I’d already been laid up for 5 days before they weighed me at Good Sam

Finally finished the afghan for my nephew that I started over a year ago. The main body was done ages ago, but the hand detailing was left. I figured out a good way to do it today, and now it’s done. So yay!!

While working, I was watching the GilMORE The Merrier marathon on UP. I like The Gilmore Girls, but OMG, the commercials on this channel!! Between the hip Santa Fiat ads, “A Puppy For Christmas”, some heartwarming story about a Christmas tree on a roof, and another sappy story about an ice dancer and her hockey-playing “not-boyfriend” - anyway, I’m on the verge of barfing thru the snow…

But the afghan’s done, so there’s that. YAY!

Howdy Y’all! Today I have deheathenated, had N.O.L., achieved nappage, and, get ready for it… finally cleaned the collard greens!!!111 Go Me! We are goin’ to Five Guys Burgers (I know, but I’m willin’ to give it another shot) at six for “Snackin’ With The Rev”, a thing our Interim Priest is startin’ up. Just a chance to sit around and visit. Should be fun although after N.O.L. I’m still not hungry so maybe a snack it shall be for real. Tomorrow mornin’ I shall betake myself over to the church house to assist in packin’ up boxes of Turkey Day fixin’s and helpin’ to deliver a few. Then tomorrow night is men’s night over to the church house so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. I spend a lot of time over to the church house it seems.

{{{rosie}}} hang in there. It shall get better. I know not much comfort now, but better it shall get.

MOOOOOOM I agree about Gilmore Girls. I love the show but “UP” is the glurgiest of glurge.

Maybe UP us short for Throw UP!!

Happy Sunday!

It is friggin’ cold, cloudy, and windy outside. It’s 38 degrees but it feels like 21.

I am so tired of night time adventures.
One of the things that sucks about getting older is that while I can still hear pretty well, I can’t always tell what direction the sound is coming from.

So I wake up, I have no idea why.
I hear a crash/thud in the kitchen, only it isn’t the cat because the cat is asleep on his box. I yelled for Sah-son to get up, jumped up and ran into the kitchen and I don’t see anything. I looked outside and didn’t see anything. He put his shoes on and checked outside, made sure the bilco doors were still shut. Then I tried to turn on the basement lights and they wouldn’t come on and I’m scared somebody broke in downstairs. I finally got those lights to come on and Sah-son checked it out, then he went upstairs to make sure it wasn’t squirrels.

Then I look out the front door, mystery solved. The paper person must have hit the door with the paper, making the crash into the door and the thud onto the porch.

Several hours later when Sah-son woke up freezing, we figured out the reason the basement lights didn’t come on was because I flipped the emergency cut-off switch for the furnace.

I had weird dreams all night long.

Then I took him to the college for his math test.
When I turned on the engine to warm up the truck while I was waiting the low tire light came on. None of them look low, and I can’t find my tire gauge. We stopped at a gas station on the way home. Neither of us was dressed for the weather, it was so cold and windy, with a few snow flurries, neither one of us could stand it. So I drove home. Hopefully it will be warmer and less windy tomorrow we can go out and figure out which one needs air and pump it up.

Snow flurries! Two days ago it was in the 70s, now we have flurries.

I got Sonic for lunch, he got TacoHell.
I feel like I need a nap, and I wonder what I did with the tire pressure gauge.

Can you argue cheerfully with him? That might be fun. If he’s dead set on converting you, it could get tiresome.

{{{Rosie}}}. Well, at least there’s the weight loss. :frowning: I hope the time goes quickly. Can we send you some books or puzzle books or kindle gift cards or ???

I’m with the family at a diner waiting for brunch. Today the weather is rainy, windy and flirting with snow. We’ve got white on all the hills, but I don’t know if it will make it down to our level. There’s a good chance we’ll get it for Thanksgiving.

After brunch, the plan is to hit the grocery store and pick up the things we didn’t get at Costco. Then we head home and handle a few household items. MiL just called and asked if she could come stay for 3 weeks for “reasons”. We need to do a little research to find out what’s going on back in Texas that she needs to flee here for 3 weeks. She tends to drive us all nuts, so this should be interesting. Family is fun.

Change of plans. Neither one of us is up for gettin’ out and about so no snackin’ with the Rev tonight. So here I post in my comfy pants, tshirt, and robe. NICE!

MOOOOOOM from now on UP shall be known as the barf channel.

No books, please. But Amazon or Apple/iTunes gift cards would be nice

Well, the soccer refereeing is done for another fall, I did three games on Saturday and two more on Sunday, giving me a total of 34 games refereed this season. This was the state tournament, so all the games were close, the two today both ended 3-2 with lots of running (by both players and me) and a dozen calls that could be disputed (and were by the parents), but I’m pretty sure we got all the important ones right. Morning games this weekend for in the low 40’s, getting up to about 54F for the afternoon, so just about time to end the season.

So of course I got home about 3:45pm, ready for a nice hot bath and the water heater light had gone out (it seems to do so about every two months). Got the pilot light turned back on (I’ve become pretty good at the routine) and am waiting for enough warm water to be generated to take a nice long bath. After that it’s meatloaf at Logan’s Roadhouse for Sunday Dinner.

Sari, I get the occasional bumps in the night, but never had any problems (and don’t have a basement). Glad you have sah-son to help you out.

Sunny, I’m getting ready to drive up and spend Thanksgiving with my brother and his family; they are rock-ribbed Republicans and my eldest nephew styles himself a libertarian, so I’ll be biting my tongue as often as I bite the turkey. The bassets will be happy to see me as I provide a nice big lap for them.

Butters, depends on the conspiracies. If they are old hat like Pearl Harbor of JFK, might be mildly entertaining. If they are full-grown wacko like 9-11 or ‘we didn’t land on the moon’, calm ‘un-huhs’ with copious behind-the-back eyerolls is prescribed (like we do to spidey when he’s not around).

Be a helluva commute but should I have to leave Da Jungle in January -------
The Old Wench is in central Florida. Knowing her sense of direction and habit of getting lost, everyone from Swampy to (I believe) Butters could be in mortal danger. I would lock myself indoors and avoid the streets until next Sunday.

I do that every day.

anyrose, you obviously have access to a computer. Do you mind a couple of links to online stories from Project Gutenberg? I don’t know what all your tastes in literature are, these two short stories are works of alternate history, speculative fiction if you like.

I’ll also get a card in the mail.

I’ve just returned from a family birthday party, a gathering of around twenty people, one of our best dinners in years. It was the substitute for Thanksgiving, as my two sisters have to work on Thursday. Both work in hospitals, you can’t close those down.

I am stuffed! We had tons of food and most of it got eaten. The only exception was part of the desserts, there were so many. I made a squash pie and had two loaves of braided challah and it’s all gone!

The pie was made with puree from a huge banana squash my cousin gave me. It’s a heritage type veggie, I doubt many will see it in stores. I got enough puree to make at least eight pies. Then, today, she brought me another squash, and it’s even bigger than the first one. She weighed it and said it’s 25.5 pounds!!! That’s a touch over 11.5 kilos! I think I’ll process it this weekend.

Now I need to rest and digest. I don’t think I’ll need to eat for a couple of days.

Ruble don’t forget Peaches. If The Old Wench can wind up in southwest Jawja or the Flarduh Keys, she could wind up in southeast Jawja as well.

I hauled the biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. ‘Tis a cool evenin’ so maybe the collard green stems won’t set up to big of a stink overnight.

Now back to binge watchin’ Gilmore Girls.

I hate holiday shoppers. I hate them. I hate them very much. You would think that exactly the same number of people would be doing their shopping this weekend as any other weekend. We all eat every week, right? But no. Apparently, some people only eat this week and maybe select other high holy weeks. The market is crowded by some order of magnitude, like the logarithmic scale used for measuring earthquakes. And it’s a team sport too. They’re all wandering around in groups, considering items on the shelf like they’ve never seen a condiment before. “What about this one? Do you think this one would work? Oh, I don’t know. I’m not sure that’s the right kind. What do we usually get?” How do these people eat all year? My husband kept darting off to the tastings, and my son kept trying to crawl under the basket to sleep. My daughter sensibly stayed in the car and read a book.

I still don’t know why my MiL needs/wants to get out of Texas for 3 weeks. This should be a good story. I’m going to sit here and veg with the Internets for a while first though.

I avoid stores from Thanksgiving to February.

Have you Challah recipe?

Sure!
**
CHALLAH** -2 loaves

3/4 ounce of active dry yeast( 7-½ teaspoons)
1-1/3 cup lukewarm water(320 ml)
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
3 Tablespoons softened butter(1-1/2 ounces)(45 g)
3 eggs
5-½ cups all-purpose flour*(28-¼ ounces)(800 g)

Dissolve yeast in warm water in mixing bowl… Add sugar, salt, butter and eggs and stir to mix. Gradually add flour, kneading until dough is smooth and elastic, probably at least ten minutes. Cover dough in a bowl and allow to rise until double, about ninety minutes. Divide dough into two part. For a plain loaf, roll dough into a rectangle and roll from wide edge and seal.** If braiding divide dough into as many strands as desired and braid. Place on papered sheet pan, brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with seeds if desired. Allow to rise again until nearly doubled…*** Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit(175 degrees Celsius) until golden brown. Cool before slicing.

*You may also use part all-purpose and part bread flour
**If making a plain loaf be sure the seam side is on the bottom. Cut three or four shallow cuts at angles into the top of the loaf.
***At work I let the bread rise is a proof box, which allows for warmth and humidity. In the home, if it’s cool or dry, place the bread to rise in an unlit oven, along with a pan of steaming water. As the water cools warm it up again and put back with rising bread. This helps keep the outer skin of the bread moist. If it dries while rising it may produce unsightly cracks in the crust.

If you have any questions about the above, please feel free to ask.
