I asked the boss for the afternoon off, and he said yes.
Before noon, I’ll go out and try to put the OSB sheets on the shed roof. I decided I will need help with the roofing roll, so I reached out on Facebook to the guy who has done so much work on the house over the years to see if he could send a guy over to help me. He said he’d be over at five. If I am successful getting the OSB up, we can finish the roof today! If not, then he can help me put the sheets on and we can finish the roof today.
The next step will be to sweep out the interior and find what’s left of my can of grey deck paint to paint the floor.
Roxy and I had some play time inside and out, then I gave her a PB&J “mich” (as she calls it.) Daughter woke up and put her down for her nap. So it’s quiet and I plan to veg a bit.
Daughter’s school is doing a GoFundMe in the hopes of reopening this school year. It’s a very small private school (fewer than 50 students for grades 7-12) and they want to get Chromebooks for all the kids to use, plus anti-virus cleaning supplies. With the shortened school year just past, they lost a lot of fundraising opportunities, so they’re hurting. I wish FCD’s business was in a position to buy them the computers, but he lost a lot of hours due to his surgery and his bank account slipped lower than we like. So I just gave them an anonymous donation.
And I’m feeling like this might be a pizza night. Or some kind of take-out. Just because…
Darned back still hates me. It’s not as bad today, though any fast movement hurts. I think I’ll walk for a bit later to see if that loosens things up.
I’m still feeling a little punky but not as horrendous as Monday or even as bad as yesterday. I’m bummed, though, because I think I’ll be pulling my daughter out of day camp for next week (she’s home this week, was really excited to go to day camp of the next few weeks of summer). The positivity rate in good ol’ MO is increasing and I just can’t justify her being in a cluster of kids I don’t know. For the same reason I’ll be avoiding a mom’s night out one of the parents scheduled for Saturday night - 15 of us on a crowded deck without masks just doesn’t seem like a great idea. Being responsible sucks.
Oh, well - saw another hummingbird this morning and grinned like an idiot for a few minutes, so that was cool. That’s why I go outside at least once a morning; I get to be alone in a happy place with a vat of coffee and if I’m lucky, I get to see or hear or smell something that makes me smile.
I feel so weird not doing anything this morning. Well, I’ve done some stuff around here, two loads of laundry, cleaned the kitchen and powder room, and straightened the living room.
Not irking feels weird though.
Not having the dogs here feels weird.
The roofer has been irking since before 9. I have a doctor appointment at 2, and since I don’t know where I’m going, I should leave early.
I know the building is about 15 minutes away, it’s finding which entrance I need that will be the hard part. It’s a big complex, and you have to drive all over the place until you find the right color doors. There are flags out the same color as the door, but it’s still a screwed up mess finding anything.
Morning/Afternoon/whatever time it is in your locale greetings. Slept in for once until 0830 and outside of getting the newspaper in and BLT’s prepared and consumed, it has been a slow day so far. 82F outside with a good chance of rain later today, sez the weather wizards.
FCM, not sure if I should be proud or appalled in appearing in your dream. And to help settle your mind, I wear PJ bottoms (red, blue, or black), no tops, and my u’wear of choice is boxer-briefs (aren’t you glad you asked??)
Lots of Dr. appointments either just done or occurring…hope it’s all good news.
wordy, I think being responsible is the least sucky thing there is…in the long run, short run can be a pain. But I think you’re doing the right thing.
To all a good day and I’ll try to do something reasonably active with my day…or not.
I have to remember to get money out of the atm on the way back from the doctor.
My weird dream was that I saw some dimes on the ground and when I’d pick one up another one appeared in it’s place. Then I saw some quarters and when I picked one up another one appeared in it’s place.
If only making money was that easy.
You want them to EXPERIMENT with a new doo-hickey in his HEART? Lots of jokes come to mind, but since I’m a relatively nice guy, I’m not going to make any of them.
Yes, we are willing to try it. It is retrievable and removable should it not land in the correct place. It’s already been used with great success but the trials are still ongoing.
Home from the doctor, if I hadn’t been in a bitchy mood before I left I sure would have been in one once I got there.
It’s friggin hot out there, TWPTB lied, it’s in the 90’s. The flags in front of the blue entrance looked silver to me, finally found the silver entrance, which shares a parking lot with the orange entrance and there was construction going on. All the parking aisles ended at the fence around the construction site, so you have to back down the aisles as you can’t go around and not enough room to turn around.
I finally found a parking space out in the middle of bum fuc nowhere. I didn’t wear my mask in the parking lot, nobody around anyway, but by the time I got to the building I was dripping with sweat and as soon as I put the mask on it was clinging to me and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The guy who came into the office behind me looked like he was ready to pass out.
I have to go back at the end of September. I hope the construction is done and the parking is more convenient.
I think the guy is going to finish the shed today. He thought it would take two days but he is already nailing on the shingles. It cost a bit more, no surprise to me, because when he started tearing the roof off he found that more wood was rotted than he originally thought. So $200 total.
I was expecting $400, so I’m happy.
Now I can get everything off the porch and the deck and put them in the shed. It won’t look so messy out there.
I must confess to a certain morbid curiosity. I have not previously had reason to use that phrase, but I digress. Did the previously mentioned pajamas have Winnie the Pooh on them? Bugs Bunny, Star Wars?
Afternoon. Did sorting and unloading today. It was hotter than Satan’s armpit. I made a shredded chicken burrito for lunch, had to toss most of the tortillas since somebody poked a bunch of holes in the bag. This is right after Atkins Cat decided to use the loaf of bread as a bed, giving it the same density as a neutron star.
Feel better, Wordy!
Good luck to Hubby, Butters
swampy, I need to pick up more TP, as the current crisis has depleted my normal three month supply.
Ohhh, Alex Cat Is in trouble now. Dinner is et. Was good. And yes it’s very early. I wanted it over and done with. Of course, I now have to go clean up the kitchen. I am about ready to call it a day already. I will be glad when it gets dark early again.
Mr Smith found himself a genius cardiac surgeon who was willing to try to help him, instead of joining all the others who said, “Sorry!”
If Dr Genius thinks the new valve will work, and he’s willing to use his magic hands to install it, RIGHT ON!
We’d still be in the Stone Age with witch doctors poking holes in our skulls to let the bad spirits out, if there were no Dr Genius types to try new things.
I’d give thanks to any and all deities for such an opportunity.
Daughter and SIL have gone to fetch the pizza. I lost track of time and didn’t order as early as I normally would. But they should be on their way back now. I’s hongree…
I finally got to take my after-irk walk today. The last two days it was raining. Yesterday it was dry at the house but less than a mile up the road it was pouring. sigh Mountain weather: if you don’t like it, go five miles away.
Samantha Cat is finally over her cold. I unlocked the cat door this morning and all four tabbies came in to see what’s up.
FCM, flytrap, y’all keep talking about my sleeping apparel and I may have to go full nuclear and post pictures…and trust me on this, you really don’t want me to do that…
doggio, what does the cat have against bread anyway?
Sari, hopefully it’ll also be cooler in September. And congrats on the new shed.
Butters, if the risk is (apparently) low and the benefits major, I’d go for it (the heart valve).
Like Uncle Albert’s relations, I haven’t done a bloody thing all day…but I’m not sorry about it. Had a Big Bowl o’Sallit on the menu but forgot to buy the bagged fixin’s, so I’ll head out in a minute or two and forage for sustenance as the budget is still good.
Got Chipotle BBQ cooking in the oven, with paprika potato wedges. Made a Mahattan earlier, but I was out of rye. So I used the Elijah Craig bourbon. Nice. I am also experiencing a brownout. The kitchen light is flicketing, and the fridge bulb is dim.
MetalMouse , guess she wants me on the Atkins diet.
