Not very. A well established clump might be 10 or 12 inches across, and 6 or 8 inches high.

This contest will run in perpetuity as we will be continually adding new plants. It will end for each particular plant when that plant becomes available for sale and we choose a name. I’m sure that there are a few bugs and some things that we haven’t thought out in detail

I don’t know if we all get a free hellebore but I’m ok with just participating as long as I don’t get the bugs.

I’m the rascal who spearheaded the current effort to totally stuff the ballot box on the very lovely 2002-097. If you note a couple of thousand votes for naming it Cecil Adams – well, that’s us.

We’re all denizens of an online message board associated with the Straight Dope, a series of books and syndicated articles by the World’s Smartest Human, Cecil Adams. On the message boards, we discuss all matters, great and small, factual and highly speculative. We’re an active community who very much think of ourselves as a community, and we regard Cecil Adams as our spiritual father – well, our spiritual uncle, actually, we call him “Unca Cece” amongst ourselves.

I work in the marketing end of the gardening biz, and when I came across a reference to your contest, I immediately checked it out – and since you welcome ballot box stuffing, I decided to organize a campaign to get one of your hellebores named for Cecil Adams. Here is a link to the item I posted, followed by discussion by my fellow Dopers (sic).

As you can see, enthusiasm runs high – as does confusion. I’m guessing we don’t all get freebies, but the prose is a bit unclear on that point.

More importantly, from our point of view – when will you go ahead and name the hellebore the Cecil Adams? And when can we start buying massive numbers of them from you to honor Unca Cece in our gardens?
