Let's name some SDMB posting 'moves'

I’ve seen this a lot more on other boards, but have you noticed whenever someone gets called out for bigotry, they euphemize it as “different opinions”?

A: Black people are all criminals
B: That’s incredibly racist
Later, in a different conversation
A: Yeah, B got all angry with me because they can’t tolerate different opinions.

Of course there’s always naked Vinnying.

But you knew that already.

Guy like you should always keep a supply in stock.

No one’s mentioned the Shodan Sign off move?

The “I can’t remember the guy’s name”: when you insist that some simple, thoroughly documented physical action cannot have happened until and unless you have recreated it with an absurdly oversimplistic model consisting of paper circles and washers.

Well, sure, you could do it that way…

Nobody had the bad taste and poor judgement to do so. Until now, of course.

Pics, or it didn’t happen.

Let’s not forget The Minkler.

Starving for The Good Old Days move where every thread is an example of when men were men, coloreds and women knew their place and dicks didn’t fit into cardboard tubes.

Desperately and repeatedly trying to yank the discourse off of a gutter-pun track which everyone else in the thread is clearly enjoying and wishing would be allowed to continue on its merry way. Call it the Tru-Haiku.

Your posts are your cite.

Not sure whether to call this the mythoughts or the 7777777:

Repeatedly give the same proof of a false statement ignoring the fact that it has been shown repeatedly why the proof is incorrect and rejected by the entire scientific establishment, then claim that the only reason people disagree with you is that they didn’t fully understand your proof.

Also my version of the Shodan:

Refute any argument made on the board with the simple statement that the board leans in a Liberal direction. Without any actual discussion on the topic at hand.

That is the tack he took in that thread, but I’m thinking The Cartooniverse is more of a reverse-Occam which deals with dramatic potential rather than likelihood.

Instead of “the simplest answer is usually correct,” it’s “the most dramatic answer is usually correct.”

:: goose-steps for effect ::

And SftGOD of the SDMB, where the poster uses whatever is going on as an example of how much the board sucks compared to the glory days of 1999-2002.

One I dislike – and I won’t name it for anyone – is the “We’ve done this thread before” dismissal.

Some new member joins up, and wants to talk about – whatever. Let’s say he has doubts about Relativity. Okay, let’s talk. But someone always seems to post, “We’ve discussed this before, here, here, here, and here,” with links to previous SDMB threads.

It’s valid…but it’s damn rude. It’s an attempt to shut down conversation. It’s dismissive, derisive, denigrating, and demeaning.

Sorry, we’ll have to call it something else. The term Fotheringay-Phippsed already means to own someone so hard in the Pit using clever wordplay and biting satire that everyone reading the thread can only rise to their feet and slow clap in admiration.

A canonical example:

slow clap

Are you guys some sort of tag team?

The “DrDeth” when a poster just *will not *drop something and just keeps digging himself deeper into a hole. You can admire the fact he’s obviously sincere, but it can hurt watching the process.

The “Paper Towel Tube” defense.

The Jack Dean Tyler - When a poster tells other posters that they’re doing sex wrong.

Sure, cut a man when he’s down.
