Let's play a game to get to know each other better

I was thinking: I’ve been here 4 and a half years and have over 4,000 posts and I barely even know any of you. I don’t even really know the dopers I share a city with too well, even though I’ve met a few of them - lel, GIGOBuster, Padeye, etc.

So I thought I’d start this little game. Tell us a little bit about your self and then tell us something you know about the poster above you. You can say you enjoy a certain aspect of his or her posts, you know and share a hobby of theirs, or whatever. If all you know about them is what they posted about themselves in this thread, then just repeat it. Now you know!

If you have questions for another doper, now’s the time and this is the place to ask.

I’ll go first, and since there’s no one above me, I’ll post what I know about, oh, the 7th poster here.

Here goes:

I’m 23, former mortgage banker, recently returned to school, majoring in English. I love comic books, but I don’t post in or read the weekly discussions because I haven’t been able to afford them since I went back to school :p. I love to travel; I’ve been to Europe 3 times, as well as Tokyo, Hiroshima, Okinawa, and 49 states (I lack Alaska.) I’m very interested in film and would like to work in the movie industry one day, writing, acting, directing, or all three. I have many other interests though, including teaching and [non-film] writing, and probably won’t dedicate myself to one thing for at least a few more years. I grew up in NC and now I live in Phoenix with my girlfriend. We’ve been together one year.

Hey Cisco.

I have seen you post but hardly know anything about you other than what you just opened up about.

I am in my mid 40s, married 5 years now to Cardsfan who is 29. We have a house in North Dallas, Texas, and currently have 4 cats and a dog for companions. We have no children with no plans for such. I work in the telecom industry and Cardsfan works in computer sales. We enjoy: bowling, disk golf, softball and I am a certified personal trainer. Our favoite sport is baseball and our MLB team is the Saint Louis Cardinals, which are in the playoffs. (note: Cardsfan1975 signon name)

Hi Cisco,

I’m 37 by accident - I take the attitude that I’m actually 24 and my real age is a mistake.

I’m English, but I have been living in Ireland for the past nine years. Before that I was living in Hong Kong for 3 years, then traveled around Asia for just under a year, and before that I was a failed actor.

Half of my immediate family has been living in Tennessee for 15 years, but my dad is retiring soon and they’re coming back to England, apart from my sister, who’s married with a kid in Chattanooga. The other half of my close family lives in different parts of England.

Got married a couple of years ago to a lovely Irish girl who I’ve been seeing for seven years now. Before that I was seeing another Irish girl, and she’s the reason I moved to this country.

Three years ago my wife and I bought a small house in a council estate in north Dublin. Nice house, shitty neighbors. We have a cat called Cookie Monster, whom we adore.

For pleasure I play guitar and sing. The guitar is mediocre, but the voice is good; I don’t know enough songs though. I can also vaguely play the mandolin, mandola, bouzouki, violin, didgeridoo, mouth organ, and tin whistle, but all of them really badly. I cook a hell of a lot as a stress-buster, and I also try to write fiction, but motivation is a problem, especially since I joined the SDMB.

I also adore travel, have spent years in the US, visited all 48 contiguous states, as well as Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, many European countries, and most of east Asia. I have a particular thing for south-east Asia, and would live there if it were at all feasible. Next time you’ve got the money to travel, go there. You’ll never regret it. We’re selling our house at the moment, and when we do we’re going to find a foster home for the kitty, then travel the world on the profits. Yay!

I run a natural foods store in Charlottesville Virginia. I am married 1 year. My wife and I just bought our first house. The home is isolated back in the Virginia woods on a dirt road rarely visited by others. It is quiet and peaceful there.

I enjoy good books, cryptic crosswords, a good football game, and duplicate bridge.

On Wednesday nights, I sit up until 4am playing experimental music on the local college public radio station. I spend way too much money on this music. I wish I had travelled as much as jjimmand Cisco. My wife claims I work too many hours, but she is the real workhorse. We have no children by choice—but a houseful of cats and dogs.

Hey, Biotop’s the puzzle guy. Not my thing, but it’s definitely memorable.

What can I say? I’m a 24 year-old software engineer with a B.A. in math from the University of Virginia, in beautiful Charlottesville, VA. I’m a beginning powerlifter and metalhead. And I’m not very good about writing about myself.

I’ve not noticed (forgive me) ultrafilters posts, but now, he sounds really good(how You doing?).

Me, I’m a 45 year old Yippie, loves to read, must have chocolate for breakfast, have bad eyesight(worn glasses since age 6).
I have a wonderful 11 year old son, who loves cats.

I’ve noticed that everybody seems to know Vanilla pretty well, but all I know about her is what she’s posted here and that she posted to my picture thread. With 8,000+ posts, I must just keep missing her.

I’m 20 years old. I’m originally from Plattsburgh, NY, and now I live in Roanoke, VA. I wait tables, study Computer Science on and off, and study philosophy on my own time. When I’m not at work, I’m either hanging out with my best friend and philosophizing while listening to Tears For Fears and Radiohead, or sitting around overanalyzing things. I’m currently girlfriend-less, and have been for the last two years…sigh

Let’s see…I know that Roland Orzabal is a Tears for Fears and Radiohead fan, and that he’s single, uses big words, and is a cutie.

I’m 26 and due to graduate from university this December. I’m single (but the alternatives are dire at times), spend a lot of time thinking or just plain daydreaming, and am looking for a full-time job. I also do not get to eat enough ice cream.

I’m going to say that Harimad-sol, in addition to being in bed, is either Canadian or British because he (she?) did not use an article (definite or indefinite) in front of the word university. And no one ever gets enough ice cream.
I’m a 40 something liberal labor lawyer with a penchant for using parenthetical phrases (I’m also fond of alliteration, and almost always write as if my words were to be read aloud). I’ve lived up and down the Pacific Coast from Monterey to Juneau and don’t know why any one would live anywhere else. I believe that redwood groves are inherently holy and that a healthy dose of cynicism makes optimism a fine philosophy for life–expect the best, but be ready with a sarcastic reply for the worst. I love Winnie the Pooh, Tom Robbins and Warren Zevon, would love to know what pychological secrets that combination reveals about me and if adding that I love football and moonlit walks on the beach confuses things even more. Did I mention I hate to vacuum?

I know Kallessa and have met her. She was nice enough to give me stuff when I moved into an apartment as well. Classy lady.

I’m a 22 year old high school graduate with no real job skills to speak of. Last year, I got into a huge fight my mom and moved out of her house to my cousin’s where I lived for a month. After that, I moved to Nebraska (from Tennessee) to try to find a job but had no luck until I eventually lucked into a job working for Gr8Kat in Oregon.

I’m single, bisexual (I’d call myself a 1.8 on the Kinsey scale), liberal to the point of massive blood loss, and thoroughly atheist. My favorite TV show is Star Trek, I love the band Tool, and don’t know what the hell I want to do with my life.

I know that Kallessa isn’t a lady, she’s a dame!

I’m 33 and live in Ohio with my husband. He’s from Kentucky and we met online eight years ago this month. I work in sales and I have the personality of a wet dishrag.

Chattanooga? I assume you’ve visited her there before, right? Have you ever passed through Cleveland? It’s where I was born, raised, and until January, lived most of my life. Does she live in Chattanooga proper or Ooltewah, Red Bank, Soddy Daisy, et al?

I’m pretty sure jsgoddess doesn’t have the personality of a wet dishrag.

The second-oldest of four kids in my family (all males), I’m an eighteen (almost nineteen)-year old Roman Catholic college student in, as my location box indicates, southern California. I was born in Mississippi and lived there until I left for university life this August. I’m a fan of the music of the sixties and seventies, and “Hey Jude” cheers me up like little else. I also play inline hockey and cheer for the Colorado Avalanche (but not this year :(). I love reading and do it more than maybe anything else besides sleeping. I also do not get nearly enough ice cream and I don’t know what to do with my life.

I envy Aeserion’s location.

I guess that is more about myself than about him. His name, I believe, is a reference to something I feel I should know but don’t so it intimidates me.

But we are both Trek fans and he would probably be very jealous to know I once waked within 10 feet of Terry Farrell while she was only half in uniform.

Hey guys!

I’m 18, a university student, majoring in English and Linguistics. I love reading, writing, listening to music, long walks, hiking, and nature; I love movies, photography, cooking, and taking care of animals. I’m a little on the wild side, weird, eccentric, sensitive, spontaneous, open-hearted. Scratch me, I’ll nurse a grudge 'gainst you; laugh with me, share your thoughts, walk with me a while, you’ve got a friend for life.

:smack:

All I know of Zebra is that s/he is a very, very funny, sly, witty person–not much else, sadly.

I know that I’ve run into other posts from Kythereia because I like her name! I think I read an explanation of it, but I forget. :smack:

I’m 44, medium height, weight and hair (greying blonde). I really do work at a zoo! I’ve got multiple pets and teenage boys. Mr zoogirl and I have been together 24 years next month.

I like to write and I’ve had poems published. I’m currently working on a series of mystery/romance novels set in this area. So far I’ve written one and three quarters of a second.

I post on a few other boards as well, always as “zoogirl” . Currently I’m most often found on SickthingsUK because I’m a huge Alice Cooper fan. I’m also a church going Christian. (No, that’s not impossible! )

Lets see, zoogirl obviously wears the pants in the relationship (notice how she refers to her SO as mr. zoogirl and not zooguy), is young at heart, and probably smells a lot like wet fur.
:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m (yet another) software engineer. Heavily influenced by Dungeons and Dragons, so I’m a pretty big geek. Currently into boardgames (the German ones, **not ** Monopoly or Risk), and collecting DVDs.

I’m obssessive, compulsive, evil, weird, nuts, crazy, and one day I *will * rule the world. (I am accepting subscribers to my fan club right now)

Aside from that, I like catching up on old movies (not the soppy ones), reading fantasy, downloading *exotic * porn (umm, heh heh, scratch that :o ), and drinking coffee.

Although I am indeed very jealous, I take solace in that it was Terry Farrell that you saw and not Nicole de Boer. If it were her instead, I would have to call on all of Asgard* to smite thee like thou hast never been smote before.
*Asgard being the dimensional plane that the Aesir, the Norse gods, live on.

I promised to write about the 7th person who posted in this thread. I know (and knew before this thread from reading his posts) that Roland Orbazal was named after the guy from Tears for Fears. I see him around a lot for a guy with so (relatively) few posts, so we must have a lot in common (being attracted to the same threads and all.)

Cheers, Roland! :).

Hey, me too!
