You guys can try the doors, but we’ve never been able to get inside that building. It’s always locked.
Check it out, or move on? Or camp here?
I suggest we camp for the night and check it out in the morning. Who wants to take first watch?
You can all check it out, but I suggest waiting for tomorrow. I know this area, let me watch for now. Who among you all has experience outdoors, too?
Good question.
Sadly, we really don’t know. I seem to have some affinity for outdoorsy activity…but I don’t recall anything specific.
Have I learned anything new about myself?
Did our time at the settlement help us remember anything or any skills?
Ditto that question and add, have I had the chance to learn/remember any new rituals?
There are some things you remember even though you haven’t had anything to prompt them. For instance, since waking up in the cave, you haven’t seen any horses. But you know horses exist. In fact, you all (except Koldanar) are fairly confident that your could ride them. Not all people know how, but you do.
NAF, there is one more ritual that you remember – Passage of the Soul. I’ll explain the significance of this in the control thread, but the upshot is this – you should be praying more. In fact, you know that you should be praying a lot when the moon is full. Those are the holy days. You remember that the moon was waxing the other night.
In the contol thread, mlees brought up a good point. He said that maybe the Taelda carved bone, and that could be worth something in trade.
They don’t, but they carve wood. The containers that your honey drinks came in are real works of art. What’s inside them is the real treasure, of course, but the wooden vessels might buy you a meal or three.
NAF1138, I see that (in the control thread) I have a 112 in Shield. Could I take yours, just for now?
tdn, I found (in the control thread) I had some ability in Woodcarving. Did watching the natives, or handling the honey-jars bring back memories?
You’ve made chairs.
As far as taking watches at night, in this type of forum you guys could take forever agreeing on something and the game will never progress. Can we set up a default watch order for every night, assuming that nothing abnormal happens?
I propose this, and unless there are objections, let’s just go with it:
There are five of you, so if you each take a 2-hour watch, that’s a total of ten hours in which you each get a full eight hours of sleep. No fatigue levels that way.
I’ve thought this out very carefully, with the help of a 1d5:
8pm-10 - Santo
10-12am - Gaerlen/Koldanar
12-2 - glee
2-4 - Antinor
4-6am - NAF
I put Santo first because his reduced eyesight probably works best during those hours. I put NAF last because he might want to pray during those early morning hours.
This is the watch that you use on this night, next to the building. When you wake up the next day, the weather is partly sunny with a few light showers. The wind is howling strong.
You check out the building. Let’s do the obvious:
You look at it: The structure is built right into the side of the mountain. The stonework is superior, but very old, much like the trail. The only entrance is two massive iron doors. Scratches on them indicate repeated break-in attempts, both clever and brutal.
You knock: There is no answer.
You try to open them: They don’t open.
You try to check for traps, then pick the locks: You have neither the skills nor the tools to do either. You can’t go in.
Continue checking it out, or pack up camp and move on?
This might a way for NAF to test his ritual skill…can he beseech Larani to open the door?
(Wasn’t trying to waste time on watches and the like…just trying to get into the spirit!)
In fact, he can! He can try, anyway.
Yeah, I know. I’m just trying to keep things moving along.
I’ve been busy working on a later part of the scenario, which is why I haven;t posted yet today. But please, continue.
While waiting for our ritual dude…
scouts the area for any signs of an entry into the building.
Of course you can.
Sorry I haven’t been around toDay. I am in the final stages of game design at the moment. My time should free up again if not by tomorrow, then the day after.
BTW, if anyone is interested in a mafia game, I am still looking for 6 players.
Just saying.
It’s solid stone all around.
We have that rope. If we can’t go through it, maybe we can go over it?
Try I will.
Let me pray and see if I can’t remember any additional rituals while I am at it.
Also, I would like to put in that I will be praying every evening before bed and every morning before my watch. Say and hour each. How do I function on 6 hours sleep? Can I pray during my watch? If I can I will pray then instead of just before my watch.
That’s a thought, but we need a weight to counterbalance or a spike of some kind. Maybe tie it off to a rock or one of the spears?
how high are the walls/gates/doors
Can I find anything suitable to tie to the rope for weight?
I really think you’re wasting time! What is so interesting about a stone building? My people have been seeing it forever, and no one’s bothered coming out that we know of.
