Let's play a role-playing game

My mistake. It is.

Dammit, Jim, I’m a GM, not an accountant!

OK, you’ve selected a Gargun to tie up. It’s one of the less bashed-up ones, to reduce the chances of it going into shock when it wakes up.

You’re off of the road, somewhat hidden.

What happened to the remaining Gargun? Did you kill them?

And who is going to use their physician skills on whom?

Lastly, what is NAF going to talk to the captive Gargun about?

If the others didn’t finish off the remaining ones, I most certainly will. But I’m going to stay far away from the live one lest I get rid of that one too.

Awesome.

You get to your place of cover. Your captive wakes up. And then goes into shock.

Crap.

How serious is it? I should probably pray for him.

Shock is always serious. Sometimes it ends in death, after all. But in most cases, people get over it, especially if they have decent ENDs.

There’s not much you can do for him except keep him warm and elevate his feet. Your healing prayer doesn’t apply to shock.

Well I am not raising this guys END. I don’t like him that much. That being said…we haven’t killed all the others yet have we?

The others are all dead, yes.

Crap, if it comes down to it I guess I will raise his END. He is well tied up though, right?

He’s not going anywhere.

Well sure, he’s in shock. I will start performing the ritual. While I am at it, how long do the effects last?

Would it be a good to let NAF finish him off to raise his fighting skills a bit when we’re done with him?

(He’s still in shock, right? Or else I won’t say this out loud.)

That would be something to talk over I think. It seems wrong to kill a POW in cold blood. Is there really any honor in that?

If we really can’t let the thing go, the only sporting thing I can think of is to let it at least attempt to defend itself instead of killing it while it’s tied up. We’re not (or at least, we seem to not be) mercenaries.

I probably should have thought that bit through before suggesting we kidnap one.

Talking to him may be the difference between finding fresh water and not. I say capturing him is a good thing. What to do with him after…killing him just seems wrong, but we can’t realisitcally let him go or take him with us.

It seems that you’re our defacto spiritual advisor. How would Larani look on us killing a prisoner?

Part of my concern is that she would no longer answer your prayers, because your rituals have been a great help so far and I would hate to piss off the entity that grants them.

That’s my concern as well.

Do I know how Larani feels about killing in cold blood?

It is an interesting dilemma. Killing a foe – even a Gargun – in cold blood displays a huge lack of honor. The basic honor code is to never start a fight, but to always finish one. Not very chivalric to slaughter a restrained creature, especially if there’s a possibility that it has an immortal soul.

NAF, you just remembered another ritual – Valamin’s Insight. It is specifically for moral quandries. I’d say that this counts.

As far as the endurance ritual goes, it lasts for 10 minutes – or 30. The shock roll comes at the end of 4 hours. I figure that if the increased END happens any time during that period, if will have an effect. You don’t have to time it at exactly 3:55.

While you’re pondering this, let’s deal with the healing.

Antinor tends to glee’s wounds. NAF tends to Koldanar.

rolls That’s some nice work there, guys. Next time try bleeding them with leeches. You botched it a bit.

Now the healing ritual: Well done. What would have taken a month takes minutes. Both of you are all healed up.

Well I have a bit of time. Don’t let me not increase the END, but let’s look into Valamin’s Insight. Maybe Valamin has an idea about what to do.

And who is Valamin? Saint Valamin, actually. He is a sad young man that lives in Dolithor with Larani. In Heaven, of course.

You have a vision of not only setting the Gargun free, but healing it first. And then giving it weapons. If it runs away, fine. If it wants a fight, then let it be a one-on-one fight. (Not necessarily with you.)

It is a Gargun, though. It would be dishonorable, but not a mortal sin, to just chase it away, wounded and weaponless.
