Let's play a role-playing game

What do you think we should do?

I would never bother the goddess with such trivialities as socks! The mere suggestion that I…

:grumble:

Ahem, I would like to ask the goddess if Rugger is an abomination that needs to be killed in order for the party to be safe.

Not saying it would, and not saying it wouldn’t, but I’m quoting that anyway.

Remember what Sir Chimin said about the Kald Stalker?

The Holy 8-Ball says…

Ask again later.

Um…no. Want to refresh our memory?
ETA:

Why must you toy with your humble servent sweet goddess? :frowning:

So there’s that.

Help me find a priest? I’ll keep my distance and won’t make you guys stray from our original intended course; surely I’ll find one in the next town.

NAF isn’t the right kind of priest, I don’t think. It needs to be a Morgathian priest.

Two or three years ago (accounts vary), people started disappearing. That happens every now and then, but it started happening more frequently – at least once per month. Most disappearances were serfs, the urban poor, and vagrants, and most happened in or near the city of Tashal or the Earldom of Olokand. But lately, some have happened to persons of note, and sometimes rather far afield. The most startling has been the disappearance of the Earl of Osel, though his wife had an explanation for it.

On occasion, ghouls resembling the missing would appear and terrorize a village.

Having no other explanation, the disappearances were blamed on the Kald Stalker, a dark demon whose appearance, habits, motives, and way of life varied, depending on who as telling the story. It is often depicted as a 12-foot tall black demon with wings, which could set itself afire in an instant.

/eyes up Was-Santo

So, tdn, what exactly was this terrorizing? Did we discuss how these returning ghouls acted towards those they knew?

Was-Santo could also be a sleeper, thinking he is himself but triggering later? With no idea how these undead work, we can’t be too sure.

Also, Morgathian(sp) priest?

No, you just got the impression that they killed babies, kicked puppies, and put banana peels in front of little old ladies. The nature of the terrorism is a bit vague.

You’ve heard of Morgath. The very name strikes terror in your heart. He is the evil god of the dead.

Do I have any additional thoughts on Morgath? Maybe a religious perspective on him?

Now we’re getting somewhere!
What happens when you find the priest? How do you know it has to be a Morgathian priest?

You know that there are three gods that are universally considered “evil.” They are Morgath, Agrik, and Naveh. Though they are all evil, they are not necessarily friendly to each other. Agrik is Larani’s chief enemy, and controls demons like I described above.

Morgath seeks to greet the End of Things (a fate believed by all religions) with utter chaos, brought about by an army of the dead. He is considered to be quite insane, driven so by some mysterious force known as the Shadow of Bukrai. You’re not really sure what that is, but you suspect it’s BAD.

And what does NAF or any of us know about what insane ass Morgath’s priests are likely to do to one, or who they’re likely to be?

As far as I know, I’m not a religious expert, but it sounds like worshiping a god seeking to greet the End of Things with pandemonium spurred on by a bunch of insane zombies would be at least a little bit socially awkward.

Do we know whether there’s likely to be a Morgathian priest just like in a nice little insane Shadow of Bukrai temple on the corner? Seems unlikely, which would mean that Santo might be misleading us?

Since little of Morgath is known in the first place, and since your memories have been wiped of all geography in the second, your questions are unanswerable at this time.

But may I make a sig line of your 2nd paragraph? That’s brilliant.

Be my guest.

Well, maybe Santo can clue us in on what a Morgathian priest is all about. Otherwise, I think we either go with Koldanar’s extreme solution or we see if Santo is amenable to being bound up or something until we can find a trustworthy neutral party to evaluate the situation.

It doesn’t look good.

All I know is he has to perform some rituals on me or else I will die. It will not bode well for my soul.

I’d rather not be bound; one of you guys can keep an eye on me. Now that my sword is useless, I’m not much of a threat in that regard. And I’m still able to help, albeit limited, if we’re ambushed.

But how do you know this? Is it something that came to you while you were out?

My memory of what happened is coming back slowly. I think something happened while I was out, but I’m only remembering bits and pieces at a time.

Your control thread seems to have slipped away.

I’ll spoiler the rest, so as not to distract others with my idle chatter:
Heh. You caused an ASNER (Acute Spontaneous Nasal Eruptive Reflex, aka “coffee out the nose”), sir.

I think Santo is an undead. When his brain decays, and his memory goes bye-bye, he’ll be looking for some nice juicy (living) brains to dine on.

Would NAF remember what happens if last rites are performed on a living subject? Is their soul torn away, or do they need to be dead first?
EDIT: Heh. Quote within a spoiler is distracting… ain’t it?
