I was able to watch a glut of training videos over the weekend, and today I played for 7 hours straight. For most people that would probably be enough for their whole turn, but I hate having people idle and I was constantly checking how to do things. I’m ummm… one month in… lol. It will go faster from now though.
One quick question. Where are the levers to the bridges? The front one and the dungeon one. Both might need to be pulled I feel… But we’re not doomed!
As of the end of my turn, the front gate bridge was controlled by a lever in a 3x3 office near the northeast side of the fortress, two levels down from the surface, under the shallow part of the ocean along with the original living quarters. I don’t know if that’s been changed.
In the last post Dinaroozie says that the bridge to the caverns is controlled by a lever in the ‘scenic bedroom warrens’.
Yep, that’s it right in the centre of this smoothed area. And I don’t remember if anyone played after AndrewL besides me but I didn’t dick around with any switch placements.
Also I love the image of a dwarven leader saying to his advisors “Not that we’re doomed or anything but um… you know the bridges that lead into the fort? Was just wondering where the switches to raise those are…?”
But I am, errr, was, the baron! My name cannot be bandied about like some such plaything. But, for now, I will continue as my most trusted assistant. (well, in the morning… put another 5 hours in today. It’s now summer…lol.)
As for us being doomed, that has to do with a few factors I guess. Autolycus the 2nd last words, if you could call them that, were something about fiery demons and the ocean. How there was only one way to keep him safe forever and ever…
Checking in. By Arnok’s bloody hammer, it’s one thing after another. I finished my bloody turn a week ago, but I can’t seem to get two goddamn minutes together to write up and post my updates. First it was work, then my GF came over and we had a fight. My laptop screen is half busted. Now it’s Golden Week where it’s one drinking holiday after another. Must…write…must…finish.
Wait, you mean writing a report of a game you’re playing with people on the internet isn’t the most important thing you’ve got going on in your life? Not cool, dude.
Speaking of crazy talk, I posted a lot of updates today. I think a read-through will give you a general idea of the situation. I should be able to finish up tomorrow with pics and the save file.
I am thinking we should probably start deciding who is going next. FlyingRat? Babale? It would behoove us if it was somebody skilled.
Is it OK to ask “How To” questions in this thread? I have a problem that I have run across a few times and have no idea how to resolve it. I’ll get a “hunter” in a group of migrants who arrive, and the hunter will go off and kill some stuff, then at some point he just starts standing around doing nothing. I’ve thought “Hey, maybe he’s out of bolts” so I make some more bolts, but he never picks them up and goes off to hunt some more, he just eats and drinks and sleeps but won’t do his job. I’ve tried turning off hunting and then turning it back on, thinking maybe he needed a little kick-start or something, but nothing ever seems to work. I just wind up assigning him to do other stuff since he won’t hunt anymore.
I usually disable hunters when they show up - go to their Labor screen and turn off the Hunter labor - and then set them to do something useful instead. I did however manage in my most recent fortress to have a Hunter work properly. I don’t know what I did right, other than constantly making new bolts as quickly as he used them.
Did you make the new bolts out of metal, wood, or bone? I don’t know that it matters, but on my one successful hunter I made bone bolts for him and he used them to hunt. It may be that metal bolts are reserved for the military.
Is there anything for him to hunt? Wild animals run out after a while, and a good hunter can render the local wildlife extinct after a few years.
In the game I’m currently playing I’m near the end of the first year and he showed up in the first group of migrants about five or six months in. He’s only got six kills, so I doubt that’s enough to wipe out the local wildlife. I tried making wood and metal bolts, but not bone. Maybe I’ll give that a shot and see what happens.
I apologize extremely for the long time it took in the making. Real life got in the way and even in my free time it ended up taking way longer than I expected, probably due to all the crazy shit happening.
At the same time, I sincerely hoped you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing it. I really tried to put a lot of effort in, and I really feel like I got into the character and life of the rulers of Soundbridges. Whether I succeeded or not, I had a blast and hope y’all did too. I’d appreciate a few comments if y’all could spare a minute
Soooo, who’s next? Has anyone heard from Babale? I thought I saw him post somewhere else on the board over the last few weeks. Babale, if you’re reading this, I hope you’re not mad that your turn got kinda pre-empted. You should go next.
Let’s keep this show on the road. For Soundbridges!
Every game I’ve played, no matter what, I’ve got a bunch of question marks in my inventory screen. I’ve got one going right now. My Bookkeeper is a Proficient Record Keeper (Very Rusty) because, presumably, he isn’t doing inventory. I’ve tried turning off all his duties and still nothing. Any ideas?
