Let's play the Amelie game - Likes & Dislikes

In the wonderful French film Amelie many of the characters are presented as having several likes and dislikes. These items are little things in life that either give annoyance or simple pleasure.

Let’s have your list! I’ll start.

Gassendi likes:

• Smoothly downshifting from fifth to third as he turns down his street
• Lining up his books on the shelf in order of size
• Shaving in the shower
• Reading a magazine while eating sushi at a window table at lunchtime on a Saturday

Gassendi dislikes:

• Sweating in clean clothes immediately after showering
• Waiting for a clerk who is interrupted by another customer on the telephone
• Flat soda
• The expression “happy go-lucky”

LunaSea likes:
Driving at night on lonely highways
Picking turkey off the bird while doing the dishes
The smell of a brand new hardback book

LunaSea dislikes
Being touched by other people’s feet
Styrofoam
Beds that are too soft

• playing around with something small with his fingers
• reorganizing his stamp collection
• the good feeling when he helped somebody

LX dislikes:

• the scent of deodorant
• people repeating themselves over and over again without even noticing it
• hair in the sink
• getting up way too early

• playing on swingsets in the middle of the night

• Naps in the nude

red sunsets
men with deep voices
the smell of roses

Witchie doesn’t like
people that “come on” too hard

– telemarking in the bumps
– dancing down rapids
– paddling for weeks in remote wilderness
– immersing in books
– playing with cats

Muffin does not like:
– pollution
– pushy people

– people with short fuses

Kyla likes:

• watching fireflies at dusk.
• reading a book while eating lunch.
• listening to a baseball game while cleaning.
• doing the laundry.
• dogs.

Kyla doesn’t like:

• “courteous” people who stop where they don’t have stop signs to let me go.
• library due dates.
• the light outside her apartment which shines through the window at night.
• cats. (Allergies.)

Kittenblue likes:

• the sound of rain on the roof
• changing lanes without hitting any of the imbedded reflectors
• the sound of an empty house
• the nudge of a cat’s nose on my hand

Kittenblue dislikes:

• the television as background noise
• cleaning the sink strainer
• hot, steamy weather
• the smell of alcohol on a heavy drinker’s breath and sweat

snermy likes:

-reading to her cat (cat likes this too. cat purrs)
-hiking in the very early morning
-long baths
-pens instead of pencils
-making to do and shopping lists

snermy dislikes:

-listening to tv or radio (or movie theatre) too loud
-seeing people be embarrassed, even just in a movie scene.
-store bread (like wonder bread)
-wearing socks ever, shoes unecessarily.
-carrying around and following to do and shopping lists.

• smiles from babies
• pens with smooth-flowing ink
• her boyfriend announcing that they’re going to eat out tonight and she can pick the place

she dislikes:

• being cold
• cherry pie
• when other drivers honk at her
