We can talk about what the rules say about this kind of thing, what people think the rules should say, why we’re not warning etv78 and whether or not that’s appropriate, whether or not the MPSIMS thread was trolling, and other stuff related to rules and moderation. But as much as I enjoyed the whole umkay investigation, ATMB isn’t the place to put etv78 through the wringer. Make sense?

IMO, if you purposefully troll other boards, come here and admit it, then effectively drag the external trolling here by having someone come to bitch at you - you deserve at least a warning here.
What would have happened if this mod from another board had read that “bragging” thread as if this board was complicit, and rallied the troops to come over and spam/troll/annoy this board?
IMO, if you want to troll other places and talk about it here, fine, you should probably talk about your lame pursuits elsewhere, but whatever. But if your trolling endeavors should happen to follow you back here for any reason, be prepared to face the consequences.
It’s nothing personal against etv one way or the other, I just think it makes sense to treat admitted (or proven) infractions elsewhere as infractions here if they should happen to follow you back here.
Then we might’ve had a board war on our hands and would’ve probably had to talk down or warn or ban those people. That’s one reason among many that this was a stupid and thoughtless thing to do.
Unfortunately the implications of this can become kind of unwieldy, and it does amount to warning a poster for something someone else did. The extent of the repercussions of etv78 trolling other boards was one person coming here to yell at etv78. It would have been a problem if 20 people had done it, but since it was only one it sounds more like just deserts.
If you have an issue with etv78, you need to start a Pit thread.
We cannot police what people do – or claim to do – in places that we don’t moderate.

The “someone else” is the person (people) that’d pour over during a board war. If I signed up for a Pepsi forum using the same username I have here and posted “Coke is better!” and a bunch of people came chasing me back to the Dope and I was warned for it I would be getting a warning because of the actions of other people. And they’ve already said they shouldn’t and won’t moderate people based on what they do in places outside their jurisdiction (a position I agree with).

I know talking about tenses may seem pedantic, but I have a point here. There is zero danger of us getting in a board war here. I just don’t see that happening. The mod that came in was warning us about the guy. He’s like an INTERPOL agent warning us of a known criminal.
Both boards are fully aware that etv is acting alone.
