So how does a Diamond or Pearl player get a Darkrai creature, then? Seems unfair.
I think that the item that unlocks it was released at an event a year or two ago. Game Stop and Toys 'R Us probably distributed them. Not as convenient as getting it via WiFi, but not impossible to find. Much better than the old days where you had to physically link with cables to get the rarer ones.

You’re in luck! I got a female with a Naughty nature and “Often lost in thought.” She’ll have especially good Atk. and Sp. Atk. Moves are Wrap, Leer, and Thunder Wave.

I have a second one now, lvl 46, that I traded for. I don’t have the DS handy, but I know that he’s gained some EVs and might not have his original moves, so he probably isn’t as desirable.
There was a Toys R Us event last year timed to coincide with the DVD release of The Rise of Darkrai. That’s where my sons got the first of theirs. The event was for the Darkrai itself, not an item like the Platinum event.
You can also unlock a bonus mission in the side game “Pokemon Ranger:Shadows of Almia”, capture the Darkrai, and send it to Diamond/Pearl via the local WiFi (provided you have 2 DS units). My kids have done the bonus mission, but haven’t copied over Darkrai. “Pokemon Ranger:Shadows of Almia” also has bonus missions that can get you a Manaphy egg and a Riolu that knows Aura Sphere.
I knew about Pokemon Ranger having Manaphy, but with Darkrai too? Hmm…
I might try to get a friend to go halfsies on it. I’ve still got 3 weeks of vacation that need to be wasted on video games. 
Just a warning, there are 2 Ranger games. The original Pokemon Ranger just has the Manaphy egg. The sequel Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia is the one with Darkrai, Manaphy egg, and Riolu (also bonus missions with Palkia, Dialga, and Shaymin, but the latter 3 aren’t transferable to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum)
Well I’ve been out for a while. I’m always down for trades but… I feel like a broken record here, is anyone any closer to being ready for a battle?
I knew I forgot something. The bonus Darkrai mission was downloadable through WiFi for a limited time only, supposedly December 2008-January 2009. I have noticed some WiFi downloads still being available after the announced end date, but I have no way to determine if this is one of them. So you may not want to get the game just for the Darkrai. Although it is a pretty fun game, one that makes great use of the DS touch screen.
And now my turn for a request. As a cheap father, I didn’t bother getting my kids Ruby/Sapphire since I got them Emerald. But this means they have no way to get Zangoose or Lunatone. Anybody want to trade or let me see one so we can get them off of GTS? They have every other DS-compatible game (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green) so I’m sure we can offer up some other version exclusive Pokemon. I know my boys won’t part with any legendaries, except Phione, as we can breed as many of those as we want.
How about Friday afternoon/evening? We can do it with or without legendaries, but it might be interesting to have 4-5 regulars and 1-2 legendaries, just to see what we come up with.
I think I have each on My Pokemon Ranch, do you think they’d be willing to show me a Manaphy and/or Darkrai for them? (I’d bring some legendaries as collateral.) If they aren’t comfortable with that, I’d settle for a Seviper and a lvl 1 Magnemite or Budew.
ETA: Actually I could use a Burmy too, if that’s better for them.

This has been bothering me since yesterday. While I’m still waiting for a mod to look at this, I want to mention something I find a little disturbing. Even though Rand, Xander, and I are young adults, let’s not kid ourselves; Pokemon is mostly a kid’s game. Its a well designed and fun RPG, but we aren’t the target audience, BrickJr and ChockFull’s kids are.
That a fly-by-night drug company might want to sell us older folks drugs doesn’t bother me much. They go about it in a sleazy (and I’d argue medically unethical, but that’s a GD kinda thing) way, but it isn’t too hard to tune out. The fact that the spammer either has an auto-message that specifically mentions Pokemon or the spammer specifically target a thread about a children’s game is what bugs me. Asking for decency from these people is hopeless, but one would at least think they’d limit this to WoW threads or something.
