Liberal Assholes

Jesus fucking Christ.

Listen, you arrogant little prick, people live in rural America because they were born there, because their families are there, their parents, their children, their lives, their friends, their support systems, their lives are there.

They don’t live there because “they don’t have what it takes to make it in real life?” You asshole – do you really think you could make it for a single fucking day of hard labor? I seriously doubt it. Your life isn’t more “real” than theirs just because you (like me) sit in front of a computer monitor all day. You’re not better than they are because you happened to have been born in a city, or a suburb.

And as to calling those people, your fellow citizens, “self-righteous welfare leeches” who live on government handouts, you know what you sound like, right? How are you different from some racist redneck ranting about “welfare queens” (and worse)? Don’t strain yourself thinking of the answer. I’ll answer for you. You’re not. Maybe you’ve got a better haircut and a nice suit. You’re still that same kind of piece of shit.

And “Too many people here have had it too good for too long. That is about to change.” Seriously? Where in the not-so-distant past might we have heard that kind of language before? You’re so much smarter and better educated than those you deride, you figure it out.

You’re the best recruiting tool Trump and the Trumpists ever had. They should put your face on a poster. You’re a guaranteed vote-getter for Trump. Unfortunately, you’re not the only one.

You’re the living embodiment of the caricature of liberals that Trump supporters like to throw around. You’re their bogeyman. Unfortunately, you’re real.

Holy shit. He’s going to get re-elected. And you’ll sit there all smug and condescending and self-righteous and satisfied that you’re better than everyone else. But you’re doing your absolute best to ensure his re-election (and you’re doing a good job). Unfortunately, we’re all going to have to live with the consequences.

Yeah, fuck you, too, buddy. And go vote for Trump if you don’t like it.

“Liberal assholes” aren’t referring to everyone in rural America, but we’re tired of getting fucked over by mostly white shit kickers who cling to their guns, their ‘gawd’ and their whiteness and defy all sense of logic and reason to do so.

We’re not the assholes. I don’t give a fuck how friendly someone is or how widely smile. White rural America is killing itself with addiction, alcoholism, porn addiction, and all other forms of hypocritical shit kickery, and we’re paying for it.

Some of us are tired of footing the bill, and having to pay for their willful ignorance and bigotry.

Plus points to the OP for correctly using “ensure”. (one of my pet peeves)

No love for the liberal assholes who objected to that post?

Plenty. It’s this particular asshole, and those like him/her, with whom I’ve got a problem.

I just finished reading Bill James’s “The Man From The Train” and this passage, while not directly relevant to the OP has something to say about people who have contempt for rural America.

“If you read about a crime in a small town, you will encounter frequently the comment that these people lived in the kind of quiet place where nothing interesting ever happened. This is a despicable thing to say. It is a form of bigotry directed at the past, and bigotry directed at people who live in small towns - and worse yet, it’s ignorant. Pardon my French, but it’s an ignorant asshole comment, and if you ever say a thing like that, you are revealing yourself to be an ignorant asshole.”

Tony Bourdain from the West Virginia episode of Parts Unknown

Ah, the tone argument; nonsense as always. People didn’t vote for Trump because the evil, evil “liberals” said mean things to them. They voted for Trump because they are sadists and bigots who wanted to hurt the rest of the world as much as possible because they can’t rape every woman or murder any black person they feel like anymore. They’ll vote for Trump because he’s hurting the world, which is exactly what they want; every random person who dies slowly because Trump gutted the Center for Disease Control is a victory for Trump and his followers. They want suffering and death, and that’s what he’s delivering.

And they’ll never hear any criticism from the person you are complaining about or anyone else in the first place. They are too busy listening to the far right media bubble tell them how everyone else are satanists and child molesters and traitors.

That’s just fucking idiotic.

That post was mostly just a woosh. Looks like your fell for it.

The larger point was further explained, but you missed it: Most of us are in the same boat, and rural people are not somehow better just because of where they live.

I doubt it.

Sure, other posters said that. And I agreed. The poster I quoted didn’t come across as whooshing.

Only a rube could fall for a conman like Trump. There are plenty of good people in rural America, but that shoe conforms rather nicely to shape of that foot.

From what I can tell, people from all kinds of places are falling for Trump – people in the suburbs, in the cities, too. In as much as “rube” implies rural, I don’t think it’s fair to say “only rubes.”

Also, it’s not necessarily because they’re inherently “stupid”–it’s because they’re mentally lazy. They’ve lost their critical thinking ability, because they spend all their free time watching bullshit TV like The Apprentice. It’s a nation-wide affliction, and exploiting that is about the only thing Trump knows how to do.

No you.

You don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground. Must be a Trump voter.

The god guns and guts crowd are destroying everything good about America. You seem to be helping them. I know rural America (North Carolina), I grew up there. I got out as soon as I could.

Sure when you approach them individually, they are mostly nice people, some of them. Just don’t talk politics, or even try to imply that non-whites might have equal rights. Get them in a group though, and they turn feral right quick. True some of them aren’t racist. Ones who live in Chapel Hill, and parts of Cary, maybe.

No one is going to be on your side, Tatterdemalion. Your desire to spread bigotry is antithetical to our cause. You clearly don’t know any of the people you are describing, and are thus vilifying them in the same way bigots always do the OTHER.

There is racism in rural America, but, for the vast majority, it’s ignorant racism. Few believe that whites are superior directly.

You are just trying to further the divide, rather than giving these oppressed people a reason to come to our side. This only helps Trump, not us.

You will stop attacking my family and friends with your bigoted bullshit. And, no, you can’t say they must be “one of the good ones.”

So that’s why he came back and defended every word he said?

Again, making up defenses for people before they’ve had a chance to do so is idiotic. Let them defend themselves before you put your neck out.

What are you talking about? The poster I quoted in my OP came back to the thread once, and pretty much doubled down. That’s all.

FFS, stop throwing around words like “bigotry”. It’s almost as bad as “reverse discrimination,” which is part of the magical powers that white conservatives have to engineer their own self-victimization and use it as propaganda (see “Lost Cause.”).

I have no fucking patience for it. Has nothing to do with attacking your friends and kinfolk, so there’s no need to internalize criticism of the culture as a whole that is largely responsible for putting Trump in power and keeping him there.

These people don’t want to be united in the first place. They want “their” America, plain and simple. They know Trump is lying; they just don’t care because he’s fighting for an America that represents them culturally. And that’s what matters.

Look behind the curtain. You’ll be reminded of why you fought against it.
