You may not have noticed, Guin, but among the dozens of repetitive yuk-yuks and drive-bys were a couple of welcoming well wishes. My “motive” was as I said in my post: to inform people who had left kind messages why it was all gone. Many of those messages were from Dopers. There were also people who aren’t posting in here, like TubaDiva and Polycarp, who had left very sweet posts. And they may be reading. Fenris brought up the site, and so I explained to those who care why it is gone. If you are not among those who care, then the post was not intended for you. The interpretations of my motives with respect to my brother, my grandson, and my mother and father too, I suppose, that some of you attribute to me are horrible and cruel. But I don’t care what you think. If you were not wondering what happened to OurDawson, then the post was not intended for you. If you are wondering whether you should express your sympathies, then the answer is no, you should not. You should write something biting. Something hateful. Something that is witty at the expense of me and my family. Nothing I am writing in here is intended for any of you. Just for a couple of well wishers, and a few lurkers.
Maybe one day the curtains will part, the angels will sing, the bells will chime and you’ll realize that on a public message board you’re writing to everyone, not just the few selected people from whom you’d like to see replies.
