The entire conflict between the two of appears (to me) to be based on the issue that you each use language in quite different ways, often assigning significantly different meanings to specific words. Given that you each y\use words in sometimes significantly different ways, why would you assume that Lib meant hate in the manner that you perceive it? At some level, you two might very well be able to come to agree on some specific philosophical point regarding the word “hate,” but I strongly suspect that his expression of the term was probably not intended to convey exactly the same mindset that you read it based on your usage.
I’d have thought that either another effort to come to a mutual understanding of your respective idiolects or else a recognition that you are each unable to comprehend the other’s usage, resulting in a decision to civilly ignore each other, would have been a better expenditure of energy.

This is one of the longest running boards I’ve ever came across, and there are obviously going to be shenanigans and feuds dating back to gulp 1999! I just thought that I’d not-so-subtly point out that you seem a little keen on jumping into situations that you can’t really know about.

I’m not sure what you are confused about; I was just acknowledging QG’s point that my OP was somewhat self-contradictory and excessively unpleasant. I guess Lib pissed me off once too often, and I let my feelings overpower my judgment.
And yes, I tend to lurk a lot more than I post. Partly because I have a slow internet connection, but mostly because I am kind of intimidated by the quality of thinking and writing I find on the SDMB; I can no more phrase an elegant and witty paragraph than I can glow in the dark, and I regard both talents as equally mysterious. So I usually stay quiet, and admire some of the other posters’ insights.
I have noticed that he still hasn’t returned to his own “Define God” thread even though he’s posted many times since I asked for clarification on his terminology. I hope he’s not avoiding it on purpose, for whatever reason. I’d like to think he’d say so, if he was. But this isn’t the first time he’s not answered a question I’ve asked him directly, so who can say?
