I agree with others who have said that this is a poor description of libertarianism. Asking a private citizen to help you out is in no way a hypocritical act for a libertarian. As for melodramatic, if he made his request privately, there’d be no drama; I do not presume to guess as to his reasons for wanting the ban sooner rather than later.

I am always amused when people with 10,000+ posts suggest that other people do not have a life.

Lib doesn’t list his e-mail in his profile - understandably, IMO, given the inexplicable level of venom he incurs. But I do very much want him to stay/return after a breather.

That’s not what I heard.
I’m not an authority on Liberal’s motives. I don’t know if even he knows why his request was posted in public.
I do know that “drama queen” is an easy label for anyone who acts out the need for love and attention. That need is also human nature. People who are starved for it are that way for reasons which are beyond us.
If we assume we are being manipulated into giving attention, the appropriate response is to disengage – ignore. It isn’t to shower the person with negative attention.
I just can’t make any such assumptions with the little information that I have. Some of you with more scientific minds may have keener insights that allow you to assault with confidence.
Unless, of course, they HAVE honored his request by secretly disabling his ability to post without changing anything overtly in his member status field. It’s a win-win-win situation:** Lib** gets break he needs and the disabled posting privileges he wants to keep him off the boards without alerting the whole board it’s been done; no one else will be able to prove one way or the other whether he’s staying away from the SDMB on his own voalition or not; and the mods can grant the request easily without engendering much controversy. It’s Solomonian in its perfection as a solution! All you’d need to spoil things is some smartass neo-muckracker to put two and two together and post his suspicions.
Yup. That’s the theory I’d post, if I had one. Unless a moderator or admin comes along and flat out says that’s not so. We’d all believe that, right? Right?
