I gave up right there. Completely implausible for 99.9% of liberals or anyone. The much more telling and apt typical conservative trope would have been that hypocritical liberals who had previously made excuses for thuglife criminals become rabid throw-the-book-at-him zealots when it’s their daughter who’s harmed.

There’s an old joke that “Born Again Conservative” translates as “Liberal who got mugged”. When I was reading the original I was thinking of the movie Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? in which a pair of rich liberal parents (Tracy & Hepburn) have to confront their own prejudices when their daughter dates a (ridiculously over the top perfect) black man, or the episode of All in the Family where uber liberal Mike is negatively affected by Affirmative Action and has to deal with his anger over the unfairness, or the real life case of the liberal gun control columnist who shot a guy who broke into his home some years back- these are more realistic negative actions for liberals than having no problem with letting their child be abused.
