Nah, and I usually don’t laugh. This pit thread, however, is priceless. Can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed so much!
Given your stellar display in this thread, that much is plainly evident. Really, dude, you don’t want to get in deeper.
I agree, Lib shouldn’t be expected to ‘dumbdown’ a response just so that NHIBI can understand.
If big words give you a problem NHIBI, try using a dictionary to find out what they mean.
If you trouble verbalizing words, this site may be for you.
Wow, selective parsing. Real mature.
But apparently, if he provided this, you’d whine that it was “too hard to understand” and that it “makes yer haid hurt”.
I looked for something at your apparent level of comprehension on the net, but I can’t find a “Dick and Jane’s Guide to Libertarianism”
Hm…
Let’s try to do one for you, shall we (Lib, tell me if I’m summarizing your posistion pretty closely)
“Property” means “stuff”
See Dick.
See Dick’s property.
See Goofus take Dick’s property.
Taking Dick’s property without Dick’s consent is bad.
Bad Goofus, bad!
See Jane.
See Goofus initiate force against Jane.
Initiating force against Jane is naughty.
Naughty Goofus!
See Jane shoot Goofus to protect herself.
Protecting yourself against the inititation of force is good!
Good Jane!
See Goofus go to the libertarian government to try to get them to pass laws to allow him to take Dick’s stuff and initiate force against Jane.
Silly, silly Goofus.
Libertarian governments primary function is to protect against those things.
See President Mittens laugh at Goofus as her chief of staff “Tip” throws Goofus out.
See Goofus vow eternal revenge!
Silly, silly Goofus.
See Goofus find a third-world country.
See Goofus and his hired goons form a totalitarian dictatorship.
Goofus is planning to use his country to attack President Mittens and destroy Libertaria.
See the peasants under Goofus’s authortarian regime of terror revolt and lop off Goofus’s head.
This is ok as they were defending themselves from Goofus.
Hooray for everyone except Goofus.
Poor Goofus!
Fenris
PS: You have now read every L. Neil Smith novel ever written except one. And if I’d thrown in something about sentient space-squids, you’d have read that one too.
Wow, awesome, you can generalize! Good job on being condescending!
I said all along he used big words to obfuscate his meanings/make him look more intelligent.
Thanks for the advice. It is especially valuable from one so astute as you, who pitted Lib over not much more than “WAAH YER SMARTER’N ME! NO FAAAAAAIR!” Even the sentient space squids know that…
No, I didn’t. Care to post where I did?
All I was saying was that he was using big words and famous names to make himself look smarter than he is. And to obfuscate his meanings by doing so.
iampunha and libertarian, i am sorry, can you ever forgive me?
Gosh, it’s threads like these that remind me why I love the SDMB
I think it has been a great gift for all, except for me.
Thanks! I was trying to be, but wasn’t sure, given how dim you appear to be, that you’d grasp the fact that you were being insulted. I’m glad I was able to communicate on your level. (“communicate” means “talk”. Don’t want you confused by any big words). On the other hand, I’m kind of disappointed (“disappointed”=“saddened”) by the lack of gratitude (“gratitude”=“thanks”) for having summarized both the libertarian philosophy and every L. Neil Smith novel (except the “space squids” one) for you.
Or, perhaps, he uses “big words” because the big word is more nuanced (“nuanced”=“accurate”. Um…“accurate” means “closer to”) and better communicates (I defined “communicates” above.) what he’s trying to say? The only way that “big words” would obfuscate (who taught you that one? I certainly didn’t define it for you.) is if he was using them inaccurately (“inaccurately” means “wrong”). And since you admitted (“admitted”=“said”) that you don’t understand what they mean, you’re hardly in a position to judge whether he was using them correctly (“correctly”=“right”).
Fenris
Anybody wanna peanut?
Fenris, thanks for defining me by a few message board posts.
Fenris, you are a precious gift.
Can I somehow prove I’m more intelligent than you guys seem to think I am?
I feel like I’m talking with a bunch of people who are as smart as they think I am.
Too hilarious!
GET OUT
Yes.
Tell us the 3 words that end in ‘gry’.
