[Moderator Note]If you accuse by name any SDMB poster(or hint broadly enough to make it obvious who you are talking about) in this forum you will receive a Moderator Warning.[/Moderator Note]
I can think of twice when members were banned for being caught in a lie. One guy, in order to score points in a debate, claimed that his parents were killed on 9/11. Unfortunately, he had earlier made posts indicating that his parents were alive.
Another time, a poster claimed to be a transgendered and made up a whole life around it but there was an earlier posting history with a completely different set of circumstances.
Not sure it requires lies. It just requires that only people who can boast about their IQ are willing to post.
I tend to abstain from posting in threads where responding to the OP truthfully would cast a negative light on me. I’m sure plenty of posters do the same.
Similarly, I assume people abstain from mentioning that anecdote about when they were a loosy worker or a jerk with their girlfriend, while they’ll post about this time when they were totally right and their boss an idiot, or their girlfriend a piece of shit. That results in dopers all appearing to be perfect workers and ideal lovers, without any lie being told.
This is compounded by the fact that the SDMB isn’t very forgiving. So, you’re better off shutting the fuck off if what you have to say about yourself isn’t completely stellar. If you’re, say, unemployed, saying “well, last week I procrastinated and instead of spending 16 hours/day searching for a job, I played on my console, slacked off and went out with my SO spending some money” you bet this post will be dug out if you ever complain about being unemployed and not having enough money, and a hord of hyenas will tear you apart.
Well, if it was in GQ you could dispute the fact without attacking the Poster per se. Or you could PM the Poster to let them know what you think is innaccurate.
My penis is nine feet long and perfectly cylindrical. Except for the head, which is a perfect 1/240th scale reproduction of the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.
