In this thread **brewha ** asked for names for a cat that he and his wife had acquired. I replied:
Lo and behold 2 days later I am sitting in my flat talking with a friend and in walks a Bombay cat. It is obviously a pure bred and obviously well tended, its coat shiny and sleek. It appears to be about 5 or 6 months old, perhaps someone’s Christmas present. Forgetting that my neighbour has tons of cat food and I have fed her cats only hours before, I give the Bombay some smoked salmon and a drink of water. And having eaten and drunk the cat then proceeds to take over the place - it checks upstairs, looks through the closets, comes back down and settles on my friends lap. We checked it out and it only had 2 fleas, so it hasn’t been “wild” for long.
When my friend left, a day and a bit later, she took the cat with her, using one of the neighbour’s cat carriers. Unfortunately my neighbour leaves food out for the local strays and there are some pretty tough cookies amongst the ferals she feeds and we didn’t want to leave the Bombay amongst them.
I have walked the neighbourhood, when the weather permits, but there is no sign of anyone having lost the cat. In fact the only missing pet notice I have seen was the diametric opposite “white short-haired cat wearing a black collar”.
Anyhow it seems my friend’s daughter has fallen in love with the cat - it likes body warmth and slept in my bed while it was here and sleeps with her now.
It is a really fine animal and has the best temperament of any cat I have ever known. In fact I think I miss the little bugger.
