My favorite track on the “Big Lebowski” soundtrack was “Stamping Ground” by Moondog (composer Louis Hardin), so I bought the Columbia release titled “Moondog” and can’t get enough of it.
The problem is that it’s really not quite like anything else I’ve ever heard, and I’m wondering if there are other composers/artists with a similar sound. Specifically, artists who combine your standard orchestral instruments with ones I’d associate more with pop music – like snare drums and saxophone, etc. And heavy on the percussion.
The closest I can think of offhand would be Phillip Glass, but all the Glass music I’ve heard either makes me really nervous or lulls me off to sleep. Anybody have recommendations?
