Is the reason we can’t “like” posts due to software limitations?
I imagine it’s more due to the fact that the SDMB tends to do things a tad differently. We don’t have avatars, discourage certain types of sigs, and so forth.
I admit have always been a little pleased on other boards when one of my posts is "liked’, but I do see that more often than not it’s more because I sided with one faction in a debate.
I am not sure we need this on the SDMB.
Oh god no. I would much much prefer SDMB to remain as is and not adopt any sort of “like” option for posts. Just my humble opinion of course. Such options smack of favoritism and passive aggression. No need.
We are confident of our superiority over anybody else and we spurn the cheap validation that comes from our posts being “liked.” It is given that others will like them. Hell, it’s given that others should bow down before our obvious brilliance, though some losers don’t. But this is the SDMB and we do not wish or need to be liked. That’s for the commoners on Facebook.

Even if it were, I’m not sure it would be adopted. Just not that kind of social media place.

There is absolutely nothing in the software that stops you from liking posts.
Perhaps, but do you really want to know how many people like or dislike your posts?
If they tell me why, sure. If someone doesn’t agree with something I wrote a “thumbs-down” symbol doesn’t tell me jack about what I did wrong, does it?
Then a simple thumbs up or down icon is not what you want. You want a discussion, but I don’t think our software allows such a thing.

Seriously, when are the PTB going to update the software so we can have discussions amongst ourselves. This is a website with forums speciffically for people to be able to discuss things. I think if we are going to have forums we should at least be able to discuss things with each other in said forums.
You could use your inside voices, even.
(Not to be confused with the voices inside your head, that’s another matter altogether.)
Since you are the mod without a sense of humor I should be pleased you did as well as you did. 
Your fly was open. Nobody here likes a poster showing off everything he’s got. You should save that for that other board you post on. But not JRF because you could get banned for even thinking about it there, though Rnd* might like it. I mean that board you save for lonely Saturday nights.
