For the record, the little girl that monstro mentioned did not have rabies. She’d been bitten by a dog and therefore potentially exposed to the rabies the virus. But she didn’t have the actual disease.

I feel the need to say this because it’s an important distinction. Rabies is almost always fatal and it’s incurable. So if I were that talented to actually save the life of someone who had rabies, yall would not be just finding about it on a messageboard, in a thread about colanders, outruled breastfeeding, and Mauritius. I would have been on Oprah talking about it months ago. Or NPR, like Hippy.

I’m awfully sorry to hijack this thread about colanders with this, but there is someone who survived rabies. To save someone you have to use the “Milwaukee protocol” (I’d link to the wiki, but my head only retaines useless information (see: I remembered that someone survived rabies))

Actually, multiple people have surivived rabies (the most recent is a Texas patient in 2009 who spontaneously recovered), which is why I said the disease is almost always fatal. The “Milwaukee protocol” is not considered a cure, since its still considered experimental and hasn’t proved effective in the vast majority of patients it’s been used on.

Don’t feel bad. The Texas patient appears to be the first documented case of spontaneous recovery. Some people even doubt she had rabies it’s so unheard of. But you can read more about it here: Presumptive Abortive Human Rabies --- Texas, 2009.

I think I have somwhere between 700 and a thousand friends on Facebook. I don’t like many of them, they’re just background noise. But to unfriend them could have ramifications - they could be awkard next time I see them, etc. Like the weird neuroscience major who does crappy modern art and never hems his pants - I see him at one friend’s home maybe every other month. It would be awkward unfriended him.
