Link checker/validator - freeware or shareware?

For a project I’m doing for a professor (not for a class), I need to locate something that will check the links in a page and provide a report that details the ones that don’t work. Ideally, for any that are redirected elsewhere, it would give the redirect link, but that’s not essential.

I downloaded WebQA, which has a free 30 day trial to check out - but it is definitely going away soon. It’s very sluggish to use, whether this is just on my computer or in general I don’t know. The other problem is that it seems to check beyond the basic link - I want to know that homefair.com is working, not that any ads on homefair are working, but it seems to be checking those as well. (This is in the basic version. The professional version may be different, but there’s not $199 to pay for the basic version).

My brain hurts: can anyone recommend software that will do this?

Thanks.

This one works very well and it’s free: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

NutWrench

I tried to download that earlier, but for some reason my computer isn’t handling the compressed files (I’ll try in a few minutes with the laptop - maybe it will work there).

I’d like to give that one a shot - can anyone help me with unzipping once I download - it tells me that it can’t find a program to unzip with (on the desktop - running Windows ME).

Ok, I switched to the laptop and that worked great - thanks NutWrench. It had exactly the features I needed and the task that I struggled with for several hours today turned into maybe…20 minutes, if that.

Cool. I’m glad it worked.

If you’re looking for a nice freeware Zip archive program, I recommend this one: http://free.top.bg/izsoft/
