Linking another router into the loop.

Right now I have the cable modem running to the Vonage LinkSys adapter, then from that to the X-Box and PC. What I want to do is run the modem to a D-Link router, and from that seperate connections to the Vonage adapter, X-Box and PC.

What I need to know is how much a pain in the ass this may be in setting up the addresses, or if I can just link them up, power up the system, and run wild.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone know of problems I may encounter and the best way to resolve them?

And most important. If I attempt this config and it fails miserably, can I just shutdown everything, reconfig to current set up and just go from there?

Thanks

The one thing I remember from when I set up my home network, is to make sure that you don’t have your firewall blocking LAN traffic. Other than that it’s pretty simple.

According to Vonage, for the best quality of service, you should install the phone adapter before the router, therefore reserving the right of the phone adapter to prioritize data services in favor of the voIP setup.

YMMV though, I’d thoroughly peruse their support pages before making a decision on what’s best, personally.

That link is what I had pictured. But that shows modem–>router–>adapter. Not modem–>adapter–>router. Did you mix it up, or am I missing something in that schematic?

That’ll learn me to skip the very first sentence and go right to the directions. Sorry.
