Linksys router - enabling DMZ

Okay, I’ve set my modem to “bridged ethernet” mode, so it’s not acting as a firewall.

Enabling DMZ - how? I see where it wants me to select a computer that uses 192.168.1.X as an IP, and it will allow that computer to become a DMZ.

The problem is, when I reboot, I’m going to have a different IP. I tried setting the IP as manual (through winXP) 192.168.1.103.

Then, I told the linksys to allow the computer with an IP of 192.168.1.103 to have the DMZ enabled.

However, when I set the computer to a “manual IP” (as opposed to DHCP), it doesn’t respond to the router at all.

I can’t get into it (router ip: 192.168.1.1) for the life of me, so I have to go back into DHCP mode and disable the DMZ.

How would I make this computer (XP) use the same local IP address every single time, and still be able to be the DMZ?

Do you have more than one machine on your lan?

Have you tried turning DHCP off in the router?

Does the router serve as the DHCP server ? If so, set it to give the comp a fixed specific IP address, through DHCP, based on the PCs MAC address.

Also, when you set the IP address manually, you need to use the same subnet mask. If you’re using manual IP address, try setting the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0. Also try 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway.

You need two routers (actually firewalls) to have a DMZ, which is the area between the two.
