Liquor-infused ice cream shop in Portland

We got a first look, and taste, of Portland’s new boozy ice cream shop - oregonlive.com
This is going to make drinking and driving a lot more complicated, isn’t it?

New Orleans had a whole chain of Frozen Daiquiris shops, even drive-thru ones. So very similar idea. Back in the 90s you could buy a 32oz refillable cup and get refills for only $5 IIRC. I wandered around New Orleans for 4-5 days drinking Frozen White Russians to stay cooled and buzzed.

Now that would probably mess me up.

I have been to Lickety Splitz many times. They are attached to a bowling alley, reatuarant, and entertainment complex. When the weather is warm enough, they open a walk up service window. Boozy ice cream is wonderful and those who can legally and safely consume alcohol should try it. You can also get boozy whipped cream and boozy maraschino cherries.

I used to make my own Bailey’s Irish Cream milkshakes at home. They were fantastic. But after gaining 20 pounds I had to quit them cold turkey.

Maybe I’ll start with Wild Turkey, then eventually to cold turkey.

Now you can get two ice cream headaches–first right away, and then the next morning.

Chocovine is wine with, you guessed it, chocolate. It is a fine and tasty product. I enjoyed many a bottle- often with milk and ice cream. Then, I read the ingredients. It lists either carmine or cochineal extract. Both are names for powder made from the crushed shells of an insect. NOTE-Just in case anybody doesn’t know this is NOT an urban legend. Carmine has been used for thousands of years. It does not cause cancer or other problems. It does not add flavor or texture. My only objection is that it is not kosher. These days, I mix Mannishewitz with Hershey’s or U-Bet and some milk.

Total Wine is a most-of-the-nation chain of big box liquor stores. They sell boozy ice cream by the pint & quart. So you can stock up at home & be ready when the mood strikes.

Bah. I was pretty sure that due to the bizarre laws surrounding liquor sales, Total Wine had no locations in Pennsylvania. I went to their site to check. The closest stores to where I live in Philly are in NJ and Delaware. UPDATE- I cannot find boozy ice cream on their web site. I did select “Include in store purchase only items”.

If I can buy boozy ice cream somewhere besides Lickety Splitz, I will. But either I am doing something wrong or it is not on the Total Wine website.

I have a customer account / frequent buyer ID at Total Wine’s website. They know I’m in Florida.

When I log on then search for “Ice Cream” it returns about 130 items. Most of those aren’t really ice cream, they’re things like Bailey’s liqueur with “cream” in the name. Dayum but are there a lot of brands and flavors of sweet creamy booze stuff. All vile if you ask me.

But about 15-20 of them are ice cream from two different makers: “Proof” (also styled as “PR%F”) and “Aubi & Ramsa”.

If you’re not seeing that, you’re being regionally blocked. Maybe try moving to a state in the 21st century, not the 19th.

If that doesn’t work, try Cold Duck.

Did you try searching “all stores”?

Thanks. That does show me boozy ice cream. However, when I click the ‘nearby stores’ button under any of the boozy ice creams, a pop up box tells me that they are not available within two hundred miles of my location.

During prohibition, my ancestor used to get a drink with ice cream in a clear brown liquid, and his kid would get the same with root beer. Turns out (which I did not know) “Ice Cream Shops” were a known lurk during prohibition.

A friend taught me about the magic of root beer floats. He likes Guinness whereas I prefer a shandy in mine, makes it a boozy lemon sherbet

To be fair, you wouldn’t be blocked from their website in the 19th century. Let freedom ring!

I have not tried or seen boozy ice cream. I’ll be on the lookout.

I have tried over cream infused with… other intoxicants. My brother-in-law brought it over while I was recovering from radiation therapy on my neck. I couldn’t eat anything but jello and pudding, and feeling like absolute dogshit. It was perfect.

I’m marking down that location:

Tipsy Scoop, 3987 N. Mississippi Ave, Portland

I’ll be up there next month for my nephew’s college graduation. We’ll have to celebrate with some ice cream that makes us a little tipsy! But at only 5% ABV that’s going to take a lot of ice cream.

I’ve never actually tried any boozy ice cream.

But decades ago (pre-diabetes) I was once gifted a bottle of some caramel liqueur. As a digestif is was nasty; waaay too thick and waaay too sweet. Over vanilla ice cream w some salted nuts it was fantastic.

Wisconsin likes to have its own versions of cocktails that are completely different from the original versions. The rest of the country might think of the grasshopper and the brandy alexander as sweet cocktails. In Wisconsin, they are boozy ice cream based desserts.
