List of topics pages have changed for me

I’m on a laptop using Chrome with Vincent as my theme. Last night the list of topics pages (New, Latest, Unread) changed. Before there were five contributing avatars on the right side - original poster first and most recent poster last. Now there is only one avatar - most recent poster. Next to that should be Replies, Views and Activity. Views has disappeared. The font size is smaller but is normal in the actual topic.

I tried logging in and out with no difference. Then I tried a few other themes and I’m seeing the same thing in each. Are they presenting this way for anyone else?

There are a couple of ongoing threads about recent appearance changes in Discourse after their last patch:

Which have recently improved recently in some themes at least. For best troubleshooting, do you mind trying a different theme for comparison?

I tried all the themes and they are presenting the same way except for Sam’s Simple and Minima which are apparently different in their own special way. None show up the way I remember with the multiple contributing avatars by the title. I don’t mind this new look but now I’m wondering if I’m misremembering or something. I could swear it was that way yesterday.

IIRC the multiple contributors ONLY show up after you open the thread and they appear below the OP.

The pages listing the threads have always only shown the last poster. At least on a phone where I am right now.

I’ll fiddle w a real PC later.

There, and again after the last post. But I saw them on the same line as the topic. On seeing a latest post I hadn’t read, I could tell who was the o.p. and who was participating in the thread and that could influence whether I opened it. And I saw Views between Replies and Activity which could tell me how interesting others were finding a topic (e.g. 2 replies and 100 views probably means the thread is not that interesting). I’m pretty sure I didn’t make all this up in my head. But if no one else has seen these things…

I’ve used SD light since Day 1 of Discourse. Right now I’m on Discourse - classic since SD light has been broken recently. Though apparently fixed earlier today.

You might well be right. Tbe different themes show and hide very different subsets of the totality of info Discourse puts out.

I’d like to see a “show me absolutely everything” theme just so I know what’s available to show/hide.

Humans don’t tend to miss what they never knew existed.

I’ve been seeing a number of changes. The reduction of avatars from 5 to 1. The move of the post slider to the bottom as a simple box. The removal of the bell that allowed one to changed from watching to tracking etc. That last one is particularly annoying. I have no idea how to make that change now.

It must be theme dependent because I see it on Firefox on my PC but not on Firefox on my laptop.

Woohoo! I found a Discourse example that shows exactly what I was seeing.

Maybe Vincent was the only theme set up this way and no one else has missed it. At least I know I’m not crazy. It’s not a big deal but it was useful to have that information.

I found this one by searching for Discourse forum examples.

I wonder if they’ve newly made things adaptive. Using Straight Dope Light on an iPad, I see the 5 icons, reply and view counts, and last activity date if I hold it in portrait mode (horizontally). If I turn it to landscape mode (vertical), it changes to 1 icon, and just the reply count and last activity date. It’s adapting the layout to the screen size.

@Topologist nailed it

I use the Discourse-classic theme.

On my Windows tablet using Edge with a maximized window I see exactly what @aurora_maire posted: 5 avatars to the right of (not below) the thread title. And to the left of the view & post count. That seems utterly familiar to me. At least that’s what I see in landscape mode.

If I rotate the tablet to portrait I see only the latest poster’s avatar at the far left, before the title. Likewise if I adjust the browser window width wider or narrower while in landscape mode the avatars change back and forth from 1 on the left to/from 5 on the right as I widen or narrow the window.

The same theme on my phone shows only the latest poster’s avatar at the far left, before the title. This is true in portrait and landscape.

Ah, this is what happened. The font size was somehow changed. When I made it smaller, the missing stuff reappeared. I don’t know how that happened but it’s all good now. Thanks.
