Wife and I are really excited for this one. It comes out tomorrow and is getting killer reviews.
Anyone else on here planning on getting this?

I’ve already pre-ordered it, and pick it up tomorrow. I kind of hope they have a Collector’s Edition available, since I could easily be suckered into getting a Gonzo costume. I have been unhealthily excited for this game, to the extent of following a bunch of LBPers on Twitter in the last month (not to mention my near-inability to prevent myself from going to 7-11 in the dead of winter to get a slushee in the hopes of winning some DLC for LBP2).
I’m NoPepperGames.
(I’m also watching the Little Big World Record live stream on IGN… There are so many amazing games out there created by users, it’s unbelievable. LBP2 is going to be amazing.)
I had no idea it was coming out today! I saw this thread earlier and immediately picked up a copy for myself and the wife to play. She loved the first one. While I enjoyed it I really liked that we had a game that we both could play together.
We had lunch together and I had to give her the game. She didn’t want me playing it until she gets home.
I finished the main story campaign last night. It felt like it went a little too quick. The levels are longer, there are more bosses (which are really fantastic), but it wasn’t the challenge that LBP1 was. Granted - I’ve gotten really good at this game, so that may be it. There’s no giant wheel of death, which IMO is a bad thing.
However, I only managed to play a handful of side games. And they are absolutely unbelievably amazing. This game is going to have tons of replayability for me as I slowly work my way through trying to ace everything. And that’s another thing - many of the story levels turn into race levels the second time through (with a sticker trigger). For instance, Gripple Grapple not only turns into a race, but there are three flying prize bubbles that you have to catch. It’s really challenging - and THAT’S what I came back to this for.
I think if you’re the type that plays to beat a game’s main story line and goes off to the next game, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you like to immerse yourself in a game, and really dig through it looking to complete as much as you can, this game is perfect.
I had the World Record live streaming on next to me. At one point a guy gets in front of the camera and starts listing off a bunch of genres they haven’t played yet. “We need an RPG, a JRPG, an NFL football game, a stealth game and an exercise game.” (There may have been a few more.) About an hour later they get a twitter saying someone made them an exercise game. It was a four player boxing game - pretty crude, but they had a blast. And somebody made it in an hour.
Damn, I had no idea this had come out. I knew it was coming, but I haven’t seen any advertising for it lately.
Maybe I’ll go pick it up on the way home today.
This is really all the response that we get for one of the biggest PS3 releases in a year?
Man…l
SDMB seems like more of a 360/PC crowd. The 360 gamertag thread dwarfs the PS3 one. I’ll have to hold off on LBP2 for the moment but plan on getting it eventually. My policy has been rent single player, buy multiplayer but there are so many good games in just the first three months that even that policy won’t help the pocketbook.
BTW Amazon and Best Buy are both having buy 2 get 1 free sales. It’s gonna be a banner year for the PS3.
I’ve seen the commercials for the first game and now, the sequel, and I couldn’t tell you what the hell it is. Is it a 2d game where you can also make your own levels?
Basically yeah. 2.5d platformer. It was GOTY for PS3 in 2008. 4 player online co op, create play and rate levels. And from early reviews it’s bigger and better than the original.
Correct, mostly. It’s 2D, with 3 “planes” you can stand in - so you could encounter an obstacle you could go around on a different path. The sequel has added an incredibly more robust game creation engine, allowing you to create anything from side-scrollers, FPS games, top down Smash TV type games, flight sims, etc. For simply platforming, there are thousands of levels out there every bit as developed and polished as professional games.
Wife and I have been playing this pretty much non-stop for the last couple days. We just beat the space battle and crash landed. The storyline is so so but the levels are great. So much more robust than the first one.
We actually spent most of tonight making our way through the versus levels and every one of them was tons of fun. We particularly liked the basketball one. Being able to grab the other player and throw them away from the ball is great. Also really liked the bumper cars one.
The only complaints I have right now are that, for some reason, you can only access the levels you purchased (Metal Gear, Marvel, Pirates of Car, all great and worth the price by far) by essentially going INTO the store to play them. They don’t reside local (as far as I can tell). Maybe if you turn off your network it will force them to play without going in the store. I dunno.
Munch, if you haven’t gotten the Metal Gear, Marvel and Pirates level packs you are really missing out. Tons of fun. Also be sure to download the Spacesuit while it’s still free.
I tried to play several times yesterday, but each time I gave up because it took well over five minutes for levels to load. I don’t actually know how long it would take to load the levels- I gave up. For all I know, they never would’ve loaded.
It turns out that the servers were slammed yesterday- and even when you’re playing singleplayer, the game still checks online for… well, something. As a result, I couldn’t play the game at all.
That kind of crap really pisses me off.
Yeah, online play is pretty bad right now. Have you perma-checked the “play with others” option? I’d turn that off for now. Playing single player hasn’t been bad for me at all.
Which stinks, because I love playing the x2, x3, and x4 sections of the story levels to get the extra items.
I’ve been having an issue that if I allow someone to play with me then I’ll get the “loading” page ever 3 seconds and I have to shut the game off.
Oh, and whoever designed the Panda online level is an asshole.
Panda level?
It’s a user created level but I think it was made specifically for LBP commericials in the UK or something. It’s a really bizarre level.
I’m working my way through the story mode now, just finishing the Eve levels. I absolutely love it, it really stands up to the first. I agree that the replay-ability is one of the best aspects. I think the Avalon levels are my favorite so far, I love the new mechanics with flying and shooting!
Munch. Sorry for bailing on the first go around. Wife and I didn’t want to play story missions we haven’t gotten to yet. Then when we did play with you it was on that dark stage and we couldn’t tell who was who. You got us lots of pieces though.
Question for you. When you were playing with us could you tell which ones we didn’t have or did they just look like big empty bubbles to you since you already had them?
Hey, no problem. Though that first level we started on was the second planet - I was going for a x3. Prize bubbles are hard to tell. Bubbles I don’t have are obvious - the item is inside. Bubbles I have but you don’t are red. Bubble both of us have are yellow. But the difference between red and yellow isn’t immediately obvious.
