My dog smiles too! There is something really wonderful about your dog being SO excited to see you - even after you’ve been gone for half an hour… It gets me every time!
The other thing that makes my life a joy is taking my other dog out for a walk… Last year at Thanksgiving, she suddenly lost the ability to use her back legs - we were told it was Myasthenia Gravis - and that it would probably get worse and worse til she died… We were actually discussing putting her to sleep before it got too bad for her…
But after finding some information online, we convinced our vet to try a drug meant for children with the disease, (and were told not to get our hopes up…) and within a week she was up and walking again…
Every time we go for a walk, and I see her joyfully bouncing around, I get so happy I almost cry…
Mine is when dogs waiting in a vehicle move over and sit in the driver’s seat. They just look so right there, even though dogs can’t drive. (That we know of. Maybe they can, and it’s a big canine secret.) Seeing a nice happy looking lab or golden, sitting in the driver’s seat, looking out the window… Always makes me smile.
In high school I took a paper I’d written from the previous semester about World War II-era Japanese imperialism, replaced the words “Japan” with “Rome”, “plane” with “phalanx” etc. and turned it in for an assignment about Caesar. My goal was to see if the teacher would just mark it as an A without reading it (as I hadn’t bothered to do the actual assignment). I couldn’t keep a straight face while I turned it in, and after repeated questioning I told the teacher what I’d done. She gave me an extension to write the paper that was actually assigned. Sweet!
In college, I had a video-game addicted friend who wrote a lengthy paper about Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Upon completing it, he realized he’d substituted the name of a video game character for “Tess” throughout the paper.
Me? I’m smiling because not only did I do stand-up comedy at another open mic night tonight, I did a bit that improved by a great deal when I included a story I found on the SDMB in the opening.
