With all the bad crap going on , I thought I would start a happy-thoughts thread.
What made you really SMILE today? Not a superficial, because you felt like you HAD to smile smile , but a genuine , from the heart smile.
Mine were , no surprise, mainly my pets.
Watching my kitties Ruby and Charlie play. They were wound up today and were playing more than I have ever seen them. They were even leaving the puppy Nick join their games.
An exhausted little Ruby-kitty , after the play, taking a cat nap on the kitchen stool while I cleaned the kitchen up.
Talking to my friend Kara today on the phone , making plans for her to come over tomorrow to fire up the smoker and smoke some ribs & chicken.
Puppy Nick very politely sitting and waiting his turn when I was passing out bites of burger.
Looking around and seeing how much I actually accomplished today in my cleaning jag.
Learning how to do decent photo manips with my Paint Shop Pro 9 . I still have a long way to go , but I’m gettin’ better with it !
So… anyone else have any smiles they want to share ?
My toddler daughter said, “I love you mommy,” today. I think she said it because she thought I would give her a cookie in response but it was nice to hear.
She also put a ribbon on my husband’s head and said, “You’re king daddy.”
The weather was lovely – low eighties and no humidity.
I’m going to see my nieces and nephews tomorrow. Yeah!
My lazy Saturday morning: My dear husband got up, made coffee and brought it to me in bed. Then he put the dog on the beg (she’s a Bassett and can’t get up on her own) so she could snuggle. Then let me read in bed with my dog and my coffee for a couple of hours enjoying the peace and quiet.
My son (7yo), bringing me my cat in bed. He says, Mo-om, I have a suuuurpriiiiise for you. Looook who I’ve goooot! The poor cat is so tolerant and sits with me until he leaves the room, the dashes off. It’s the thought that counts.
Watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off just for fun this evening.
Convincing my husband he should take back up his hobby of making beer. For some reason he gave it up like 10 years ago. I got him to order his supplies today. This makes me smile because he will be happy and I will have lots of good beer.
We went and saw March of the penguins too! Wow. I’m glad I’m not a penguin.
I bought large amounts of fabric to back two quilts, and scored a great price on just what I needed.
Our 2-yo daughter is a continual smile-generator. She is just insanely funny.
Our 5-yo daugher read half of a chapter book today. Woo! She learned to read this summer through osmosis, but has been sticking with easy readers and was nervous about chapter books.
Great weather, after weeks and weeks of very-hot. It was actually pleasant to be outside today.
I got a lot done today and feel good about that. I suppose that isn’t grin-worthy, but I’m happy about my day.
Just reading you guys’ smiles made ME smile ! And I have another one , even tho it’s not yet 9 AM.
My Setters-L mailing list is doing a cross-country rescue effort for an elderly Irish Setter , mostly deaf & blind , who’s days are numbered in a shelter in Northern Indiana . A list member in California is frantic to take him in , so we are forming a convoy to her . I am waiting to hear from someone that can get him as far South as Indianapolis , where I will pick him up and continue the trek. It makes me feel good that we are able to make this old guys sunset years just a little better.
The nurses trying so hard not to snicker at me when I went to the minor emergency clinic because I busted my butt yesterday. I told them to go ahead and laugh - it is funny if it’s not you! I have no broken bones in my rear - thank goodness cause there’s not anything they could do if I did. I have some tissue damage and the kind doctor gave me some pain pills and made me promise to get up and walk around to help the blood clot disipate.
I would be smiling even more if someone had been videoing when I slipped - I’m sure Funniest Home Videos would have been sending me a check.
Trip to IKEA and finally bought that corner cabinet we’ve had our eye on for some time.
Hubby worked on the cabinet, and had bought me a little drawer/chest set that I could work on by myself while he put the big thing together. I like putting stuff together, wood and nails, yarr!
Finally getting our living room, bedroom, and dining room completely redecorated and organised.
My two kitties coming out to sniff everything new excitedly.
My youngest kitty Kero turning in circles in the now spacious living room, meowing confusedly, until I called her name and her eyes lit up, and she came charging over, hopped into my lap, hopped onto my shoulder, and butted her little head against my neck and head, purring loudly. Then she fell asleep, breathing softly on my shoulder.
My husband, glancing over at me - after I have had a week of suffering the flu, and some kind of weird breakout on my face that we think my MMR shot might have caused (going away now, but I have these awful red welts on my face) - and he says, without thinking twice, “You’re so beautiful.” I hid my face and didn’t believe him, but it sure did make me feel nice.
Today is my birthday, but that’s not what made me smile. I got to sleep in, then when I came downstairs, all 4 of my children each gave me a birthday hug.
Getting up and having a yummy banana muffin for breakfast.
Taking a nice drive to the Canadian Warplane Heritage musem, and then finally (year after the fact) getting my “Legends” flight in a 1941 Stearman biplane. It was AMAZING. I could have stayed up there forever! There’s something so cool about being up in the air in a 60+ year old plane, one which was used to train pilots. Expensive, but worth it.
then we had a good lunch, and got a few errands done, and then came home and took a nice nap and now have some time on the boards.
It’s been a good day. and tomorrow…RIB FEST!!! Looking forward to that!
Manny Ramierez walking to his position in left field this afternoon, smiling and waving at fans, not knowing that he had dropped his hat about 10 feet behind him. Johnny Damon was making all these “what a buffoon!” gestures at his back, and all of Fenway was rolling in laughter, Manny totally oblivious. I love the Fenway Faithful.
Oh, and the complete game from Wells, and the win was pretty awesome.
My 14yo daughter, who has been really sufferering from depression and self-doubt for quite a while, brought me a short story that she had written for her English class, to get my opinion. The story was very well-written (as most of her really inspired work is), but it was SO good that it made me cry. (I know the OP asked about what made you smile, not what made you cry, but it was very heart-lifting to see that she was able to overcome her depression and write such an inspiring story.)
