Yeah, this is nothing important but today I was working on a paper about Huck Finn and the social satire involved, and I happened to spell stuff wrong and wrote “the king and the duck” instead of the “king and the duke”…
My nine year old daughter has a sinister sense of humor and last night she started to laugh at the dinner table out of the blue. When I asked her what she was laughing about she just said, “nothing”. It’s funny that she chose to keep whatever it was to herself (to me anyway).
I always smile when I see a dog riding in a car with its head out the window. They always look so happy! Wish something as simple as having the wind in my face made me feel that good.
Yesterday I was asking someone for a shipping rate quote for cargo originating in Rhode Island. “Which island???” Rhode Island. It’s a state. In the United States. “Really? Where? Are you sure?” That gave me a chuckle.
Also my cat, Sara, who is a silly, fluffy little thing, greets me in the morning as I go into the bathroom; she mews, purrs, blinks, and falls down, rolling over on her back to show me her soft fluffy tummy. That really makes me smile.
Well yesterday my apartment flooded and right now there are huge fans and dehumidifiers making tons of noise and basically banning my boyfriend and I to our bedroom. This morning after a night of constant fan noise I turn to my boyfriend and say, “Wow, my skin hasn’t been this moist for months. We should do this more often!*”
For some reason we couldn’t stop laughing.
We live in a very dry climate
But my favorite moment was when my boyfriend and I were driving across Canada and in the middle of Saskatchewan he turns to me and says, “Well one good thing about the prairies, they sure are efficient”
I was installing Windows yesterday. Looked out the window killing time “Install will be completed in 32 minutes.” to see a guy teaching his son to walk in the park.
Cool.
My springer spaniel Dottie carrying her stuffed plush frog around. He’s her favorite toy. It just looks so funny with his legs sticking out all over. Sometimes she carries him by the crotch and that’s especially silly-looking. We call her “the frog dog.”
When I watch my 2-year-old eat carrots by dipping them in grated Parmesan cheese. It’s the only way she’ll eat them and it never fails to make me smile.
When my girl cat goes into what we call ‘Coma Kitty’ mode, and you can pretty much do anything to her - ie, poke, prod, make her dance:D - without her waking up.
She went into one of those modes last night, and we got through half of “Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist” from Avenue Q before she woke up.
A couple weeks ago I was out on a walk when I spotted the first swallows of Spring. The pair were zipping about acrobatically and chattering to one another as they are so wont to do. I don’t think there’s another creature on earth that seems as happy and carefree as a swallow. They’re a definite smile-maker with me.
On my weekends I go to the barber. He opens at nine-thirty and I am the first one there. I get a haircut and a shave. He does everything the old-fashion way. Cold towel, lotion, warm water, cream applied with a brush, straight razor warm towel, massage.
It is very relaxing and reminds me of my grandfather. It pleases me that I am doing now what he used to do when I was a kid.
Watching the bunny that lives under the ground floor deck hop around doing bunny things.
Watching my zebra finches interact with each other. The other day Bacall grabbed Bogie by the neck feathers and yanked him off the perch and dropped him. Another time she grabbed him by the tail and pulled him off the food dish, then hung on like a little water skier as he hopped around the floor of the cage, beeping indignantly.
Unexpected kindness. Life’s been pretty stressful lately and I’ve been surprised a couple of times when friends jumped in and did something for me. Made me smile for days.
My dog greeting me at the door with a huge grin on her face (I’m not kidding- dogs can smile. It’s kinda like an upturned-mouth, bared teeth sort of thing). I’d take a picture to show you, but she’s normally constantly in motion while she’s doing this, so it’s a bit hard to do. Plus, I most often get the look when I’ve been gone off at college for a while, so she’s normally giving it while hurling herself joyously at me.
Squirrels playfully chasing themselves around the yard.
Ducks coming up to our back door (it’s glass) to peer in, attempting to get the attention of one of the humans, so that they’ll get fed.
A beautiful, sunny day, where it’s not too hot and not too cold, and all of the flowers are blooming.
Quiet babies looking in wonder at their surroundings.
Yeah, so my first post was a little dorky…but I’m working on my degree as an english teacher so it’s fun to me…haha…here’s a better one…My pup…she rides in the car window (of course with her head sticking out) and just smiles (yepp) really big…she’s so cute, we even made her a myspace account…mostly cause we like her…here’s a link…
