Live Foaling Cam

The super pooper is desecrating her freshly cleaned stall.

At some point does it become dangerous if they go too far past their due date? I’m sure getting worried about them.

Mandy seems huge. I mean her actual size, not just her belly. I wonder what happened to her poor ear.

As it happens, Counterpoint (that’s his name; owner’s a professional violinist) has a very high opinion of himself, is the resident Herd King, and can do regal in his mud-spattered sleep.

And for the 1:09 a.m. Eastern time report:

Mandy is eating.

Virona is asleep on her feet

China is attempting to excavate an escape route under her feed tub.

Lol, there’s a rather large lady in her nightie with her hand up Mandy’s girly bits.

It’s 2:00 am there, and she’s cleaning the stall. Now that’s a good mom.

In the first picture, with the mud, his head is stunning.

So, as long as we’re sitting around waiting for the girls to produce, I might as well show you horsepeople what I did yesterday:

I rode my Morgan Commander on Crane’s Beach, Ipswich.

Yes, it was as chilly and blustery as it looks, and it was around 6:00 p.m. (low tide was 5:30), so the daylight was fading. But the beach closes to horses on April 1st, and there’s a mighty storm rolling up the coast, arriving today and planning to sit over New England and drench us for the next three days, so this was my one shot at it, thanks to a kind acquaintance.

Here is Cherie on her Morgan Mica.

I left my good cameras at home and took along a little point and shoot, so the image quality ain’t so hot, but still we got some good ones, passing the camera back and forth.

This one’s my favorite.

That’s an Australian stock saddle I’m in; as out of riding shape as I am, I was taking no chances. Commander was on fire! He’s been to the beach many times with his previous owner and he knew just where he was when we unloaded. He was good about being mounted, and followed Mica politely, but you could tell he was pumped to be there.

Going out he walked politely, and jogged easily when I asked (I didn’t ask much since he’s as out of shape as I am), but when we turned to go back, well, I had myself a little jigging machine under me. And yet, it was no big problem. He’d jigjogjigjog to catch up to Mica – who is a much bigger walker than Commander and would pull ahead; I’d check him back to a walk; he’d walk, slowly fall behind, and jigjogjigjog up again. If I’d merely hinted at it, he’d have broken into a canter (I know his previous owner would gallop him sometimes on the way back) but he obeyed when I refused to go along with the idea.

He’s such a blast to ride. Cherie’s going to take poor trailerless me this summer to ride with her in the local state park, Bradley Palmer, and back to the beach next fall. Woo-hooooo!

So, you like headshots?

Like this?

Or this?

Or perhaps this?

Yeh, Counterpoint is quite a looker, isn’t he?

Virona is seriously warming up for action this morning …

In that one, like the other one with the mud, he looks like something someone would draw or paint with exaggerated perfection. He looks like the horse of little girls fairyland dreams.

This thread has made me feel like I’m 10 years old again and pining for a horse. Riding my beautiful steed as he runs along the beach with his main blowing in my face.

wistful sigh

and… now she’s resting. (heavy sigh)

for a while there she was pacing, pacing, rolling, pacing - but i guess she wore herself out!

2:30 Eastern time report:

Virona’s eating.

Mandy of the flop ear is hanging out. Her blue bucket has moved from this morning’s position.

China is standing next to her feed tub within a ring of poop.

verona is flat out laying on her side now.

she is going to deliver soon…

i’m drawing upon my vast experience in horse midwifery when i say that.

Link to Verona?

Virona at Centaur Farms

ETA: Is China okay? She hasn’t pooped for at least half an hour!

Virona seems very restless and nervous. C’mon baby!

Virona keeps holding her tail up awkwardly and looks as if she’s distinctly uncomfortable in her nether regions.

Virona just got her tail re-wrapped and is getting her stall cleaned - with occasional scritches and kisses from the girl cleaning. Cute.

ETA: China has pooped again. All is right with the world…

I don’t think she’s pregnant, I think she’s a crap camel, she has just been saving up for years, and is now starting to empty her inventory.

Wow, Virona is really restless now, pacing up and down her stall.

Now she’s pawing – a common sign of abdominal distress and/or intention to lie down!

She kicked at her belly.

Now she’s going down! I think this is it!

And her butts turned away from the camera, dammit.
