Tea-Bao’s nursing now!

You know… I wondered if that was a Knabstrupper, I thought it looked bigger than most Appies. Gorgeous!!

And little bitty teeny tiny Bao… SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I want to pick him up and squeeze him! TOO DAMNED CUTE!

I know! I want to squeeze him and love him and pat him and hug him and call him George.

Well, you can’t; he’s Tea-Bao.

Is Tea-Bao actually a boy or have we all just decided he is?

Definitely; I saw her come in with the “It’s a colt” sign for the camera.

Ah. Well he’s got the eating thing down pat.

Boy, he’s cow-hocked. I wonder if that’ll straighten out?

PapSett - Better watch that squeeeing, or you’ll open your door someday and find Peanut tied to your front porch. I could load him in the back of my station wagon and bring him up. He wouldn’t cost anything to keep, and he keeps escaping from the big pasture. He’s been in time-out for a week now.

Moka’s got her tail up and is pacing…

So you agree with me; that doesn’t look like wobbly-baby sprawl, eh?

Yoicks. Just got another good look at him from behind and yes, Tea-Bao is wicked cow-hocked.

Will his legs straighten out properly? They wouldn’t cull for something like that, would they?

My guess is, Tea-Bao will be gelded and sold as a pet if he doesn’t uncow-hock.

FloatyGimpy - According to what I’ve read, things can correct themselves a great deal in a couple days or weeks. And because minis are pets and not performance horses, I doubt they would, unless he couldn’t move. It seems to me he can get around okay.

The mystery of the bedding at Silver Creek is solved! Earlier today, I emailed them thusly:

Here is the answer I just got:

Awwww, Tea-Bao’s getting his sea legs. He was just cavorting.

I had to go out for a bit, he looks like he’s standing a bit better.

Of all the foals we’ve seen so far, Barry is my favourite. I’ve never seen a horse with such a crazy personality, I bet he’s going to be a real handful when he’s older. All the other horse moms don’t like it when a person is doing something to their baby but Mandy seems quite happy to have someone else deal with the kid for a while.

Barry seems to me to be the healthiest, best-conformed of all the foals we’ve seen so far. And yes, he’s just bursting with personality. With the right training he’s going to be a superb horse some day. And I love his two-tone tail, if only because it reminds me of a couple of pictures I have of my Quarter Horse Nick as a foal..

But Barry isn’t a show horse is he? I thought he was sort of a mutt.

Is he a special ‘kind’ of horse (besides the cute kind?)

Oh, no, Barry isn’t a mutt; he’s a purebred Quarter Horse, and from talking with Large Woman’s daughter I gather he has a very fine pedigree on both his sire and his dam’s side. Look at Mandy: She may be old, she may have seen hard times, but her quality is undeniable; she just shouts “wellbred”. Barry could grow up to be a prize-winner in any number of spheres.

Yeah it’s interesting isn’t it, Mandy had a ginked ear and is on the older side, but man, she’s a looker. Even someone like me, who has no experience with horses, can see that she is solid quality. She holds her own even against the fancy mares in the fancy barns.

And Barry is already proud as a peacock and knows he’s sumthin’ sumthin’.

I’ll sure miss watching them when they turn off the webcam.
