Good to hear that the rescue mare did so well! Fingers crossed all will continue to do well.
By the way, I tried going to the site they posted at Ustream to ask for donations and the link went nowhere. Well, I left out the “donations” part of the URL, so perhaps that’s why, although Googling their given rescue name didn’t find them either.
Meanwhile, Leiah at Iris Hills Farm just had her foal tonight. I made the call, beating out another watcher by a gnat’s whisker.
Oh, hell. Leiah foaled a bit before 3:00 a.m. my time. It’s now 4:00 a.m. and the foal still hasn’t been able to get up, or to stand on its own after being helped up. It’s not very active, not trying very much.
Checking the Mare Stare thread this morning, I find this post from one of the owners, timed at 3:39 a.m., which I believe would be 4:39 for me, so about 35 minutes after I staggered off to bed:
Sounds like things were going well enough by then that they felt safe in leaving the barn.
Ah! Just looked in at the cam, and there’s woman in with them, checking – and best of all, the filly is up and nursing!
ETA: The woman is taking photos – and the curious filly bounced over to her to investigate! Won’t stay back enough to line up the photos. Hee!
Yep, and I watched the foaling. In fact, I was one of the Mare Starers who called to alert the owners when she finally dropped and got to work – I’m Janicket on that board.
Keep an eye on Pacific Pintos – the mare on cam now has started to have contractions, and she’s borne 11 foals already, so Joanne says she should go fast when she foals.
Glenhill has a new mare on cam 1 who’s fairly close.
Update on cams to watch, all with good to excellent feeds:
Pacific Pintos has two mini mares very close to foaling.
Silver Creek has new mare on cam now named Willow. Today’s posting about her: “I expect to see a foal in the next 48 to 72 hours. She hasn’t dropped yet, but she has thick colostrum and is not interested in her feed.”
At Glenhill Farm, today’s note on Lilly states she “has a steady drip of white milk now.” Don’t forget, this cam sometimes has LOUD sound. The mare is a weaver.
The feed isn’t as good at True Colours but it’s enough to follow Puchi Trap, who alternates between looking as if she’s popping RIGHT NOW and looking like “Foal? What foal?” but should go soon, we’re assured.
The cam froze off and on for me too. There’s a problem with the Glenhill colt, though; I heard Gen on the phone saying something about a hind foot turning out, I think – I did hear “about as bad as I’ve ever seen it.” Also that she hoped that it was from being scrunched up inside, and that moving around overnight would straighten it out.
Meanwhile, at acific Pintos, Susie has just delivered an adorable oreo.
There’s a mare at Pearl Cove who just got her tail wrapped and is close.
And, then there’s Premier Friesians, where the mare is in trouble postpartum:
Hi all, on another horse forum they are asking to post the link for information about a stolen mare, leaving a four day old filly behind. A lot of this is happening more all the time. So sad
Please, post this anywhere you think it might help, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
