Live World Series Thread

That reminded me of game 3 of the ALCS when Girardi didn’t use Rivera down 2-0 going into the ninth.

I don’t even know where to start about Ron Washington. His bone-headed adherance to a predetermined, rote progression costs them game after game but he never wavers from it. I’m tired of screaming at the TV. I’m tired of having to leave the room when Oliver or whoever serves it up. To get this close, to finally make The Series and gift away the chance of winning is just beyond painful.

Nolan, Jon, please shitcan this guy so we can come back next year with a chance.

Justin Bieber? Crimeny. If I wanted to watch a 12 year old sing, I’d tune in to Nickelodian.
And quit telling me how this is a special family night time, when tomorrow you’re starting the game at 5:00. Nice trick!

OK, I got that out of my system. Let’s play ball!!

Here’s a question for you.

Has anyone ever had their numbered retired by a team for doing less for that team than Nolan Ryan and the Texas Rangers? (Leaving aside the case of Jackie Robinson, whose number is retired by all teams.)

The way they act you’d think Ryan pitched his whole career there, but of course almost everything he did of note was with California and Houston. He did pitch in Arlington for five years and had a couple of good seasons there, pitching a no-hitter, but his record there was 51-39 and he led his team to precisely nothing.

Of course now he owns the team, partially, but his number was retired before that. It’s like the Rangers have somehow annexed his entire career, and it’s ignored that his remarkable career was largely accomplished with other teams. It’s like the Mets laying claim to Willie Mays.

Oh my god, it’s George and Laura Bush! Nooooooooooooooooo.

I thought that was gone. I was wrong.

Me too. Great job, Pat!

Great play in left.

Love Pat. And he’s a local boy, to boot. Bellarmine* grad.

Go Giants!

*For you out-of-area folks, that a prestigious, Jesuit HS in San Jose.

C’mon, Texas. A few more of those would be super.

Claw!

Moreland puts three on the board with one swing.

That was a Josh Hamilton swing; Moreland looked smooth and effortless, hitting a ball 390 feet on a line with a swing that looked like a casual practice cut.

I love the way they put up completely unsurprising information as if it actually tells us something.

They had a screen graphic, during Moreland’s at-bat (nice homer, by the way), noting that 5 of 15 Texas hits during the WS have come with 2 outs.

Well, leaving aside the whole issue of small sample size, that is EXACTLY what you would expect, based on simple probability.

Hitters can be at the plate with either 0 outs, 1 out, or 2 outs. So it stands to reason that, on average, about one hit in every three will come with two outs.

My wife had exactly the same reaction to that graphic.

Praise the Lord for Mitch Moreland!

But that assumes random pitching, which is not the case.

Giants, I am not totally thrilled with your play in this game. Please to rethink what you’re doing.

Looks like we may be if for some torture today.

What? It assumes nothing about random pitching at all.

Wow, I’m not sure either of those runners should have been called out.

eta: good thing they were, though!
