Well, maybe that double play will turn things around for the Giants…
Though I’m not certain they actually got either man out…
OK, I guess it didn’t.
I think the guy was out at 2nd and safe at 1st.
Well it assumes equal pitching at least. You aren’t trying to get people to ground into double plays with two outs, which will affect what will get through as a hit or not, to name one example.
EDIT: I thought safe at second and out at first. Not a bad call by either umpire. I’d not be upset for it going either way either place.
OK, the Giants need to start being real patient at the plate and try to get Lewis to throw a bunch of pitches. If we can get past him and into the bullpen, we might have a shot at this still.
True enough.
I’d be surprised, though, if that made a huge difference. And certainly not over 15 at-bats, which is what the graphic was talking about.
Anyway, that double play call turned out to be pretty big. If both Rangers had been called safe, it might now be 6-0 instead of 4-0 after Hamilton’s blast.
Yeah. I would be interested in what the stats junkies had to say on it and other situations. Not enough to do any work on finding it, but if it was linked I’d read it.
Wade Boggs with the Devil Rays
Good one.
I wonder why they retired his number. I guess at the time there wasn’t a lot going for them.
Oh, and my word, Bengie Molina is slow, isn’t he?
It’s the seventh inning so anything can happen, but if this goes the way it’s going now, we’re facing the prospect of a 2-1 Series in which none of the three games have been particularly good ballgames, which is disappointing. But if the Rangers win there shall be plenty more baseball.
I was just looking at some of the retired numbers around the league. Can someone please explain Jim Umbrict of the Astros (Colt 45’s)? He played a grand total of five years in the majors, two with the Colt 45’s, mostly as a reliever, winning nine games and saving three.
Nevermind, I read his Wikipedia page - died young from cancer. There should be an informal rule that a team must wait five years after a player’s retirement before retiring their number. The Denver Broncos have a “Ring of Fame” in the stadium and I’ve only heard of about half of the players on it.
That’s more like it. Four more of those, please.
All right, Cody!
Yes, I think Molina might be the slowest guy in the Big Leagues.
Game 2 was actually quite a good game up until there were 2 out in the bottom of the 8th…
Bengie may be slow, but I was elated to hear him hit for the cycle while I was driving pizzas this summer
I believe they were trying to get him to go into the hall with a Devil Rays uniform.
If I hear them talk about Cliff Lee one more time I may throw something through my TV. He’s not even in this freakin’ game, nor tomorrow night’s. Can we talk about THIS game?
OK, here’s where it starts to get interesting…
Lets see if the rangers blow another lead with their best reliever not in there.
Someone speculated on the Giants postgame show after game 2 that maybe Feliz might be injured, and that was why Washington didn’t use him. Anyone know if there might have been any truth to that?
