Giants win! Giants win! Giants win!

So far, we’ve just been outplayed. Therefore, I don’t know if I should look forward to tomorrow night’s game or not. :frowning:

Nice. Say hello to Mr. Bumgarner, everybody; I believe you already know Mr. Wilson.

Yay Giants! I am holding my breath until tomorrow!

BTW, whose idea was it to hire Ozzie Guillen as a commentator? I think I would understand him better if he were speaking Spanish.

We had houseguests for Halloween, so I figured it would be rude for me to sit with my laptop on my lap all game, but I want to add one thing to the discussion.

Madison Bumgarner is a STUD!

You just ran into the same problem that the Braves and the Phillies did: The Giants pitching staff. Nobody east of the Sierras understood how good these guys are, until now.

While i’m rooting for the Giants, i sort of hope they don’t win tomorrow night.

First, it would be great for them to win at home.

Second, and more importantly, i can’t watch tomorrow night’s game, because i teach a 3-hour class on Monday evenings that starts at almost exactly the same time as the game.

Bite your tongue. I hope the Giants win tomorrow and get it over with. End of story.

The last game is the one that has eluded this team for 50+ years. I am not about to ask for a home win. I’ll take a road game, neutral field, 11-10, 1-0, whatever. Just a win. One win.

My dad had to miss one of the NLCS games because he had to go to court (he’s a lawyer, but he usually works from home). He asked me to call in a bomb threat to the courthouse. Maybe your wife could try that?
In case any humorless people are reading this, that was a joke. I do not actually endorse calling in bomb threats. Calling in sick might work, though…

Congrats to Bumgarner and Wilson. That was an awesome game.

My wife (who was born and raised in San Francisco) told me, mostly in jest, that i should cancel my class.

But we only meet once a week, and missing a full class out of a 14-week semester would really fuck around with the syllabus and put us off schedule. Plus, i’m being paid to teach, and it would be pretty unprofessional, especially when i expect good attendance from my students.

Well, I did. They have a great staff.

They were talking last night about how Bumgarner was just like Andy Pettite. I don’t see it; to me, he looks a LOT like Jimmy Key.

Me too. I will just happen to be visiting SF this Wednesday through Friday. I kinda want to be there when they win. I’ve never been in a city that has just won a sports title. I think the atmosphere will be great and I don’t think SF would be the kind of city to riot afterwards.

@mhendo and Invisible Chimp

I hope you don’t take offense at this, but you’re both completely crazy.

The Giants need to win tonight. They need to play this game like they’re down 3-1 instead of the other way around.

And I’m sure that Bochy will manage this game in exactly that fashion, just like he did with Game 6 in Philly. Luckily, their bullpen got a good rest last night, so I expect Lincecum will be on the shortest leash he’s ever seen tonight. If Bochy even smells a whiff of trouble, he’s going to go to the bullpen. As fabulous as it would be to win it all in front of the home fans, they are going to pull out all the stops to finish things tonight.

Really? No shit?

That’s disappointing, because i was expecting Bochy to bring in Barry Zito as the starter, and to put Pablo Sandoval at shortstop and Juan Uribe in centerfield, just so that i can watch the next game on Wednesday night. He actually sent me a text message after i posted just to reassure me that he understood my concern, and would make sure that there would be a game 6, just for me. In fact, even though they’re playing in an AL park, he tells me that they are going to forego the DH and have the pitcher lead off.

Seriously, this is for you:  I wasn’t expressing a desire for the Giants to do anything except play their hardest. Do you really think i was suggesting that the team should tank tonight in order to bring the series home?

As usual. pitching shuts down hitting. You need good pitching performances in the after league play. Big bats go silent so often. I would like to see a 9 to 8 game sometime.

Or maybe an 11-7 game, like game 1 of the World Series? Pitching sure shut down hitting in that game!

To keep things interesting I hope Cliff Lee does rebound after last Wednesday’s dismal outing and pitch the way he’s capable. It would be nice to see Ranger bats bark like they did during the regular season and earlier in the playoffs as well, at least for one enchanted game. Then I fully expect the Giants will win either #6 or 7 once back in their home stadium.

To the Giants credit, what a difference this has been from the ALCS. The Rangers have had little in the way of answers.

I wasn’t suggesting you thought they should tank it…i was responding to this comment: “i sort of hope they don’t win tomorrow night”.

I can understand the thought “I can’t watch the game, so I kinda hope they don’t clinch it until the next one”. But I can’t imagine any thought other than “WIN IT NOW!”. I’m sorry if I came across a little strong; I guess I just remember 2002 way too clearly.

Fair enough.

It’s also worth noting that, while i’m rooting for the Giants out of support for my wife’s hometown affiliations, and out of a petty desire to see George Bush’s team lose, i’m not as invested in the winner as an actual Giants fan would be. For me, it won’t be the end of the world if Texas wins, because i always like to see a new team take home the trophy.

For that reason, i wouldn’t be as concerned about a Giants loss tonight as a true San Francisco fan would be.
