Liz And Dick: New Lifetime Linsday Lohan Film - Hysterically Funny Review

The Hollywood Reporter review is priceless - now I HAVE TO see this Lifetime film!

Some great quotes from the linked review above:

“Both an awful mess and an instant classic of unintentional hilarity.”

“Lohan is woeful as Taylor from start to finish. But, whatever you do, don’t miss Liz & Dick. It’s an instant classic of unintentional hilarity. Drinking games were made for movies like this. And the best part is that it gets worse as it goes on, so in the right company with the right beverages, Liz & Dick could be unbearably hilarious toward the tail end of the 90-minute running time. By the time Lohan is playing mid-’80s Taylor and it looks like a lost Saturday Night Live skit, your body may be cramped by convulsions.”

I’m still surprised that this movie actually got made. I was certain that it was some sort of insurance scam.

  1. The producers bond Lindsay Lohan for a bazillion dollars.
  2. She drops off the grid a week into shooting.
  3. Profit!

I heard about this coming for a while, and I wondered what studio was crazy enough to release it. Didn’t know it was a made-for-Lifetime TV movie. After reading that review I’m setting my TiVo and breaking out the shot glasses!

I also thought it was a theatrical movie.

Oh, it has been DVR’d! I can’t wait. That’s the day my fella gets back and we are going to laugh ourselves STUPID!

Sounds like it would make a great Rifftrax.

My mother-in-law is a devout Lifetime watcher; we were at her house last week, and I saw an ad for this movie. When the trailer announced “Lindsey Lohan as Liz Taylor”, we both looked at each other and said “WHAT?”

BTW, this show airs on Lifetime next Sunday, November 25th (although I am sure there will be repeated broadcasts).

I think I will DVR it, so I can fast forward commercials, but hit “replay” on some classic scenes of this soon-to-be camp classic.

I hope Lindsay Lohan as Liz gets at least one line as good as Faye Dunaway’s infamous Joan Crawford classic of “no more wire coathangers”.

Just read where the word on the street is that good ol’ Lindsay may have finally run out of luck as far as her scofflaw ways go, as apparently her probation officer is finally fed up with her “poor little rich girl” antics, and will recommend that her probation for theft be rescinded, (specifically for lying to cops about an auto accident) and she may well finally see some serious jail time, maybe this time three or four months instead of three or four hours.

I can’t think of another celebrity who has thumbed her nose at the criminal justice system more blatantly (and successfully) than Ms. Lohan, and in a way I actually grudgingly respect the way she has gotten away with telling cops, judges and court officers alike to “Suck my ass” without any kind of meaningful repercussions, but it would be delightfully ironic if she does finally get locked up that it was for something (a simple, non-injury traffic accident) that wouldn’t have been any kind of an issue had she only been truthful about it…

Is anybody watching this? It’s far far far worse than I ever could have anticipated, and I had anticipated that it would be excerable.

Fair warning–don’t try and play a drinking game with this one. You’ll be under the couch in about 5 minutes.

I watched about 20 minutes or so…It is hard to figure whether Lindsey’s or Liz’s reputations will be more hurt by this. It was extremely non-rememberable. It was overacted to be sure, but aren’t most of these biopics? Hopefully, all involved made a little bit of money so they are happy, but not so much so they want to do it again.

After reading the horrid reviews I had to take a look. So I glimpsed at a few one minute segments of this during timeouts in the football game. It was bizarre. They couldn’t make Lohan look like Liz with any amount of makeup. And as should have been predictable, Lohan hasn’t suddenly developed any acting ability. Then this morning there’s a story that Charly Sheen gave Lohan 100 grand to help her with her tax problems. Poor Charley, obviously on drugs again.

I DVRed it. I lasted about 20 minutes and deleted it. And while LiLo was nothing special as Liz, I don’t know that any other actress would have done much better given the material they had to work with.

But, it worked, at least in part. This would have been below mediocre even by Lifetime biopic standards, regardless of the actress. But at least with that inspired casting, it caused a few more of us to tune in, at least for a little while.

My wife was watching last night and I happened to catch a little bit. Lindsay and Grant Bowler had no chemistry and the dialogue was pretty cheesy. Not particularly terrible, but didn’t really rise above the sort of soapy, unmemorable, Harlequin-style pablum that was a staple of made-for-TV flicks back in the '80s.

I caught a little and it was just bad. Not even funny-bad, just “I don’t want to watch this” bad.

Although her issues were largely self-inflicted, I felt sort of bad for Ms. Lohan. If you can’t rise to Lifetime Movie standards, what’s left? Hallmark channel? Maybe she can go back to her roots and get cast as a mom or wacky teacher on one of those dreadful Disney tween shows.

Being spit out the bottom of the porn industry.

I’m starting to feel guilty about piling on this mess of a young woman, but it looks like she’s past her prime for the adult industry. And that is truly a waste of her potential.

Neil Patrick Harris is on the Hallmark channel these days, so they may be trying to up their game.

Oddly, several of the people I follow on Twitter “Live Tweeted” during the airing. I didn’t watch it, but reading the tweets this morning was still entertaining.

I think he vastly overpaid for her “services”…
