Loading Ipod from two different computers

I use my office computer to store most of my Ipod files, but there are some that are probably not appropriate for work, so I keep them on my home computer.

I have Itunes on my office computer set to sync certain playlists. Then, when I hook in to my home computer, I try to drag and drop specific files but it won’t let me.

Questions:

  1. I want the computer to automatically sync most of the stuff, but I want to be able to override automatic syncing by choosing to copy specific files. How do I do that?

  2. How do I set it up so that I can do mostly automatic syncing with one computer but add additional material from another computer?

  3. Can I store my library on both computers, but have some files on one that aren’t on another?

Why are you storing any of your MP3s on a work computer?

I don’t know about your employer, but here, we have robots that actively seek out and kill directories with iTunes or iPod in their names, or any collections of more than “X” MP3 files. Aside from eating up disk space, it’s a large liability issue for the company if there’s any hint that file-sharing is condoned.

Aside from that, I’m not aware of any easy way to have iTunes only look at certain directories on a specific computer. There do seem to be third-party apps that will do this, but their focus is more for extracting files from iPods, rather than controlling synchronization.

Perhaps acsenray works for himself…

When it comes down to it, don’t we all work for ourselves?

When you connect your iPod, you should see it’s icon appear in the iTunes window. Click on it and a window appears. There’s an option there to manually update. Click this and you should then be able to drag and drop playlists or individual songs.

iTunes will only allow you to associate (sync) your iPod with one computer. Use iTunes to sync on your main computer, and then use one of many (free) programs like Sharepod to add files from your work computer.

EphPod is another one.

Cool. Thanks.
