Yeah, I’ve even posted a few times, and I don’t post that much. Least not for how much time I spend on here.
Dinner party this weekend. I can never get the spots out of those damn wine glasses. Anyone want to come over and clean my dishes well? HINT HINT!
In exchange, I have no problem going over your house taking your dishes. Sticking them in the dishwasher and storing them on a shelf.
Everyone wins!
Be here at 6:15. Thanks!
pat
Although I’m pretty sure you’re right, you really shouldn’t self-diagnose. I’m sure there are a lot of people, professional and otherwise, that would help confirm that for you.
And:
Is the SDMB the most appropriate place to air this kind of dirty laundry. . . . People on the webosphere can be unpredictable so don’t get sad when you spill the beans about being [dumb as hell] and some big meany calls you [an idiot.]
Doesn’t feel too nice when someone implies something about you through a snark that you can’t disprove, does it?
Kinda like when someone snarks someone implying they don’t have an illness that they just claimed they had and the person with the illness can’t prove they have it?
Now imagine that you just admitted that you have depression as well. If just a few remarks sends you to binge drink, imagine how someone feels with depression.
Aww, how sweet!!
I didn’t even think I was being terribly clever or that I automatically won the argument, but thanks for that.
Actually, I was just trying to be illustrative with the whole QG thing. And then when some people stopped to consider that it might be valid, I stopped to consider it myself! ![]()
But nah, I don’t think really think that lobstermobster is QG’s sock. QG was in a different league than this one. As Frank notes, this is garden variety stuff. QG could come up with an insult before I even had a chance to refresh the page to check my own post. Ah, good times.
What are we supposed talk about in this thread now? Hey lobstermobster, let’s dance!
We’re talking about that classic movie, Gone With the Woah, Dude, Check Out That Car.
Heffy, we get it. You’re mad at lobstermobster. Unfortunately we’re past the pileon part and have degenerated into random silliness until a passing mod takes pity on the hamsters and locks it down. So stop whining and make me giggle, dammit.
Naah, he an Injun.
There are several?
And what the hell is that thing in his ear?
[sub]See? I deflected the Pitting of you for not saying African-American by going a step further on the political incorrectness scale. And people say I’m not a nice guy.[/sub]
It’s a dart. The fletching’s in his other ear.
Could someone please start shitting on Guinastasia’s head so that she’ll get sick of the thread and request it gets closed down? I don’t have much really against Guin but I know we could go on and on with the incredibly lame one liner competition for days until it gets closed. Our dignity would be better served my way.
Can an outsider say “I’m pretty sure this thread has run it’s purpose.”? Shut’r down.
Probably everyone gets depressed from time to time. That’s not the same as having the mental illness depression. I’m sure you already know this, but a lot of people confuse the two. I think that’s why a lot of people self-diagnose mistakenly.
So. Because you are able to cope with your bouts of depression and OCD and still function day to day, then there is no excuse for others who manifest the very symptoms of their illnesses with “bad” behavior – no matter how serious the mental illness becomes or how deep the depression is. This sick person must not have symptoms! They must function!
What is this “bad behavior” that you keep referring to? Are we talking about crimes? Or are we talking about being moody and rude and undependable? What is “laziness” anyway? Is it the same as a lack of energy? These mentally ill people are really very unpleasant people to be around. And they have such poor hygiene. And they don’t clean up. How disgusting!
How dare they talk about their illnesses and pretend that they are suffering as if they were really victims of pain? Maybe their doctors told them that they should talk about it instead of keeping it inside like they did before. Or maybe a really good nurse told them that the more that people talk about mental illness, the less stigma would be attached to it. Ha! That’s a joke…isn’t it…nurse?
No pathology? Then why take SSRIs?
Maybe your own illness is affecting your ability to think clearly. Do not assume that everyone else’s depression, mental illness and state of ability or disability is like your own. That is ignorant.
No.
Yes. People can say what they want here, but it doesn’t mean that the mods have to comply.
If some one has self-diagnosed themselves as being mentally ill, be it depression, OCD, ADD, whatever, and tries to use this self-diagnosis as an excuse for not doing whatever they need to be doing (or are being paid to do) - then yes, I have a problem with it. If you have an illness that impairs your ability to do the job you are getting paid to do - be it a broken arm or OCD - hie thee to a professional and at least put some effort to getting better. Don’t whine about your problem and expect sympathy when I am doing my job and yours too.
There are people who look up symptoms and usually have a different disease each week. They don’t often go to the doctor to have these illnesses treated, however. No, the "bat’s blood and honey’ tea they got from herbalquack.com promised to take care of it!
Two months ago I lost a friend to ovarian cancer - 6 weeks from diagnosis to dead. I am scared to death of ovarian cancer. Am I looking up symptoms on the internet? Yep. I also have an appointment for a full gyn exam coming up in less than a week.
Some people do have problems. Some of those problems can be dealt with using medication, therapy or some combination of the two. None of those problems will go away if you whine loud enough or to enough people.
Could be. And some people in life use their diagnoses as crutches. (for the intelligence impaired, this is a general remark only)
I can’t believe I’m wasting time with this. Here goes. You are completely wrong. I cope–some days better than others. Those who cannot cope (and whom Reagan didn’t dump into the streets–thanks, Gipper!), need HELP. Sometimes as inpatients, sometimes as outpatients. If you are an outpatient, you need to be able to cope with Life. I didn’t say you would cope well. Sadly, given the fucked up state of mental health in this country–many who need to be inpatients, at least for awhile, are denied that.
Crime? sure. How about ruining holidays? How about leaving a disgusting mess of dirty dishes because they can’t be cleaned well enough? I hope he lives alone–no one should have to put up with that. I’ll bet he does live alone. If he lived with someone else, and they allowed this behavior to continue–that’s enabling. What needs to occur is the depressed person needs to contribute what he or she can. If the depression is so deep that this person cannot get out of bed-that’s another issue. We were never talking about that degree of mental illness here. At least I wasn’t. Perhaps that’s the disconnect.
I can assure you that I know much more about the hygiene of the mentally ill and the rest of the population than you ever will. As for unpleasant–it all depends on your POV. I find you unpleasant–but you are not mentally ill (AFAIK).
What the hell does this mean? They ARE in pain–psychic pain. Hello? What do you know about mental illness? Anything at all?
Snide remarks about my job are irrelevant. I think their doctors would tell them to talk about this stuff in a safe environment, ie therapy or with people who love and support them. This is a public message board–you take what you get. Some of what you get (and I would not include this thread in this) may well do you harm.
No–reread my post. I don’t see those who are mentally ill as victims or as pathologies. IOW, they are much more than their illnesses. Most good nurses and doctors see them this way as well. They are people with problems–they are not “the manic depressive in room 204”
This is a statement of the obvious, however, I am not the one not thinking clearly.
I had an aunt with that, luckily I’m immune.
Ask for a PET scan if they give you an MRI, both is far better than either alone.
Everybody? Dunno if I have, but I am NOT about to read through this whole mess to find out.
Oh, well, let me do my part to get it shut down:
Gratuitous insult about a mod’s weight
Pointless insertion of sig:
Heffalump, you can call me an idiot. This is isn’t communist China. I support your right to think I’m dumb as hell. I do think you’re mistaken though when you insist that I’m in some sort of competition with SD Bitches of the Past. I don’t even know who that other poster is, and I’m certainly not trying to out-bitch her. I just read and react here like everyone else. My particular reaction to DocCathode’s dishes situation was really not a good color on me, but its an isolated incident. (How’s the grammar and spelling looking, guys? It’s not perfect but better, right?)
Well is it or isn’t it?
Yes.
That makes me want to cry tears of eternal sadness. I thought I was doing so much better.
