Locking a Super Kapowzler thread? Really?

It seems obvious (to me) that the word “bitches” was used in a non serious context. Is there anyone here who doesn’t think it was obvious?
I have zero interest whatsoever in Kapowzler threads and shtick. It’s annoying. But so what? What’s the harm if others have fun with it? Is the bottom line “bitch” and “bitches” are rule violations outside the pit? Otherwise what’s the deal?

As long as the thread isn’t against the rules, and it’s simple and easy enough to avoid for those (like me) who aren’t into it, then what is the harm of letting it fly?

All of you examples are directly to a person. “Dear Bitches”, while annoying and the type of opening that makes me immediately disregard the poster, is directed at everyone and no one at the same time.

However, after skimming the OP being discussed, I did not read anything further and have never read another SK post or thread and I have no intentions of doing so. If he replies to individuals like that (“Dear Bitches”), then your examples are valid.

The SDMB is not and has never been Homework Help.

I think he deserves to be referred to as KAPOWZLER. That was not a super thread. It is demotion time.

Addressing board members as a disparaging term is a rules violation outside of the Pit.

Okay, I see there is a mild distinction, but I still think that addressing everyone who reads a thread as “bitches” is stepping on the board rules.

Andrew Dice Clay. Don Rickles. Carrot Top. Some people find all three annoying and tedious, some people like one or more. SK is at best a sock of himself (not saying it has more than one account; saying it’s performance art that appeals to some but not all).

Thread lock was the right choice. Greenlight random, rambling treadwrecks? You’d have ten times as many (eventual) closures and twenty times as many ATMB complaints.

I miss SK’s posts when he’s away for too long. Who cares if he’s only half serious most of the time?

Anybody who doesn’t agree with me is a sourpuss.

You go first. Nothing ‘max’ about you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I don’t see a Super Kapowzler thread as any worse than any other lighthearted thread that many enjoy here. And the key to the Kapowzler’s shtick is that he employs it rarely. Plenty of annoying posters here who post inane questions or posts on a daily basis who don’t get locked down.

I checked out that thread because of this thread. I wasn’t even familiar with SK before.

I can see where it’s in a gray area so I guess I really can’t fault Czarcasm, but I think it might have been a fun thread and it’s a shame that it had to be closed.

It’s certainly not the first inane useless thread to be started on here. Hell, if I can post a bunch of bullshit about being stuck on the ceiling due to a bungled rapture then I can’t really criticize SK for his style of performance art.

Yeah, there’s no harm. If someone doesn’t like a thread topic or style, they aren’t forced to participate. If others are finding entertainment and fun, why not let them have at it? What a bunch of pompous and imposing people this board has. And I am tired of the “trainwreck” term. Instead of someone deciding they are no longer interested in a given thread and opting to simply turn their attention elsewhere, THEY decide that because it no longer suits THEM, then NO ONE ELSE should have any fun either and the thread should be locked. STUPID! Get your noses out of the air people, you aren’t as important as you think you are!

I fault Czarcasm. It was a harmless, light-hearted, surrealistic thread. If ‘post the first thing that comes into your head’ and ‘please reply to this thread’ and a few other bizarre and utterly pointless threads are allowed open, then by what rational was this one closed? It’s just up to moderator discretion and each moderator has different tastes when it comes to silliness.

It’s really no big deal, but I was mildly irked. Irked I say!

I wouldn’t care, if he was funny any of the time, which he isn’t. He tries way too hard, it’s that sort of humor which is immensely pleased with itself. I’ll pass (old sourpuss that I am).

He comes across as smug. The Lone Cashews post is one of the weirdest of the year.

We don’t like a post so we are snobs?

Everyone who posts in a very distinctive style will polarise people. It’s human nature to be critical of those with opposing views.

“Very different style” is different from an affectation. It can still be polarizing, but one is inherent to a person; the other a put-on personality.

This has nothing to do with opposing views.

You’ll have to explain this to me. His style of writing may be an affectation or a put on personality, but it is a very different style.

Some people have said that they like his style; others have said they don’t. Some people have said that they agree with the closing; others have disagreed. Some people have said that ‘bitches’ is acceptable; others have said that it isn’t.

Aren’t these opposing views?

BTW, I was quoting you for context, in case other posts came in while I was writing–I hope I didn’t come across as arguing with you.
By opposing views I was referring to the posting style versus ‘opposing views’ that some people on the board think get shut down or harshly moderated because of the views. I don’t agree with that at all, but the claim is there. I do think that posting from a left-wing perspective would get you banned from Freepers or Hannity forums, but I don’t spend time there to see.

We’re in agreement with not being critical of folks who like the particular style/affectation. That’s why I earlier brought up Carrot Top or Dice. If CT came and went crazy with the smilies, or Dice posted with a strong misogynist bent, I don’t think they should be banned for just that, and I get that some people would love their posts. Great. But the mods do a lot more for the boards than enforce the black-letter law; they maintain the board’s character. Do they reign in every thread or poster? of course not–but they do draw some lines. And closing things that are a bit further than the line–in their judgment–keeps the boards (generally) on track.

Joke insults have been allowed for a long time. Yes, to be safe, you have to include a smiley (as I try to), but, just because someone doesn’t use one doesn’t the mods can’t figure it out.

That said, I do think the thread closing makes sense. There were too many questions in one thread. He obviously wasn’t interested in the answers. And the mods here frown on such frivolous posts.

Succinct way of putting it. Good

Believe it or not, it’s possible to “get” his joke, and still not find it particularly funny. Archie Bunker being an offensive character in words and action, yet still charming and funny and enjoyable, is due to brilliant writing and acting. Sorry, this guy has none of that.
