Good God, have you guys entirely lost your sense of humor? Look, I don’t care whether he is affecting partial brain damage or not, but his shit is funny. If it doesn’t tickle your funny bone, then what harm is he doing? He’s not causing any trouble. He’s not hurting or offending anyone. He’s not trolling or breaking any rules that I’m aware of. From here it just looks like he’s rubbing a few mods the wrong way, and so fun time is over. Hell, his threads have some of the best responses and most wrack up a few pages. Seriously, what the hell is the deal? Leave him alone!
Around January/February there is an abrupt change in some of his posts, but I feel this has more to do with drunk posting than anything. Drunk posting has been discouraged but never expressly forbidden.
We’ve closed all of three threads. Like I said in one of them, this is getting a little old. It’s funny a few times, but not over and over again. But he’s got more active threads than closed ones. The booty call one is still open, and so are the Top Gun one, the Spock one, and his complaint from yesterday about his threads being closed.
It was posted in Comments on Staff Reports, obviously the wrong forum.
It included criticism of the administration, and on that basis would properly have gone in ATMB. However, it was so full of profanity, not to mention incoherence, that it was more of a rant, and so not appropriate for that forum.
Since it was not really suitable for either ATMB or the Pit, nor for any other forum, I decided to close it rather than move it. I told Super Kapowzler he could open another thread in ATMB if he toned it down. He did not bother.
I’m not so much concerned about the thread closings, but more that he’s getting into big trouble and about to be suspended. No, OK few posters are angry, but it seems a bunch of mods are. That’s never good.
He hasn’t gotten so much as a warning yet. I’m not very optimistic he’s going to listen to the advice we’re giving him, but we’re giving it a shot. If he does one of these threads once in a while I think everybody’s okay with it. If he’s going to start one every night, which is what’s been going on lately, I think we can close some of those without totally killing the fun.
Oakminster, in one of the threads, compared his new bit to an SNL character - and it’s a very appropriate comparison.
Specifically, it brings to mind the ‘Makin’ copies!’ guy - a one-joke premise that’s funny if done maybe once a season, but is quickly run into the ground.
Here’s the thing: The entire rest of the internet is full of whacked-out, pointless, absurd, insane shit. It’s actually quite nice having one place that’s fairly sane and populated by reasonable, intelligent, interesting people.
So I can sort of see why people might prefer that he dial it back a bit or at least get to know his audience a bit better… I agree with the overdone comedy sketch comparison, actually.
The point I’m making (and yes, I get the whoosh) is that the SDMB is the relatively sane place, where people don’t rush to post “FIRST!” or “Im In Ur Threadz [Something]ing Ur [Something]”, at least as a general rule.
The “Lay” poster here can, I think, reasonably expect to open a thread that will make sense (even if it is A Bit Silly at times) and not be completely retarded or off-the-wall insane. That’s a big plus for this place. All I’m saying is I can see why a series of threads which are batshit insane might not be viewed in the context the author intended, that’s all.
I think he’s harmless. Yes, a bunch of similar threads in that vein may get annoying and I can see why some were shut down but if it bugs people that much they could just not read his posts.
I was kind of hoping the Lord of the Rings one would stay open, it was a legit question and it was kind of fun.
*not really, I can’t figure out how to do that on my iPhone.
I’m already doing the same thing. Yeah, it was amusing once, maybe twice, but now? Just annoyingly juvenile. The internet is full of this shit, if that’s what hits your button, why, again, do we need it here? Because a handful of posters think it’s funny, I guess.
