Locking a Super Kapowzler thread? Really?

I believe the correct response is to move this thread to Great Debates.
Or MPSIMS if you must.

Or Cafe Society. Or IMHO.

As **Czarcasm **said: it belongs everywhere.

I think putting a copy of the thread in every forum would make better sense than locking it. That thread looked like it was going to generate some interest and some funny replies. Poor mod decision, IMO.

nah. Czarcasm’s answer was as good as anything else you’d see in that thread. Shutting it down was just as valid as leaving it open. And just as productive.

I do have a question, however. The poster that is known as Super Kapowzler is not one I notice very often, but when I do, it’s always the same. For a board that loathes one-trick ponies, I’m amazed at his/her staying power.

Which brings me to my question. He starts off the OP with Dear Bitches. I know that’s part of his schtick, but is it appropriate for this board? Can any word be used for this purpose (such as “Dear Assholes”), except for the pit-only “Dear C*nts”?

Just wondering. Not trying to stir up a “and shit” storm.

Please tell me you forgot to add this::smiley: to your post.

I’ve been looking back at SK’s posts, and, to be honest, it seems that everyone else is using ‘and shit’ more than he does. His latest is ‘Word’.

What he definitely isn’t is a one trick pony. He’s amusing, compassionate (for example, where he tried to save someone’s life), interesting and, personally, I love his writing style.

Some people find his shtick annoying, but a fair number of people think it’s pretty funny.

I think Dopers understand that he’s not actually being abusive. He wouldn’t get that kind of leeway for “Dear Assholes.”

I know “shit” appears in almost half his posts, but I’m not sure how many times he said “And shit.” It was enough times (or it was memorable enough) that it stuck.

I agree.

Why not? I’d still read it as he’s not being abusive. In fact, except for a very few posters, I wouldn’t find “Dear Assholes” abusive by anyone. I’d assume it was either a joke or done tongue in cheek.

So who gets to decide if the poster is being abusive or not? Aren’t you opening yourself (the mods) up to unnecessary crap/griping by the TM if a few of them decide to have the same kind of fun SK enjoys?

I don’t know… I think it’s easier to just be consistent rather than assuming everyone knows another posters “shtick”. If one didn’t know SK’s posting style, “Dear Bitches” might be pretty offensive to someone with a different sense of humor filter.

Some people are offended by “Regards.” Taste varies, but I think most people take “Dear Bitches” in a casual way. I don’t think they would with “Dear Assholes” and I don’t think I’d have allowed that.

That’s part of the moderator job description.

KZPXR is freaking hilarious. Yes, it’s a shtick, but it goes so far over some people’s heads they don’t even hear the whoosh.
Here’s a test: Was Archie Bunker offensive? If yes, explain.

SK joined in November 2009, and first used ‘and shit’ in April 2010. His posting style was quite straight originally, and seems to have ‘loosened up’ gradually over time. And I love it.

The post was all over the place like a mad woman shitting.
It was the right Mod decision.

This could be, has been, and probably will be argued until the cows come home. Some people - some Mods included - prefer an OP that has structure and substance, presumably so the thread that follows will be ordered. Others - myself included - occasionally enjoy the rather more surreal, disordered approach. It’s fun to see where it will go. Generally, Super Kapowzler is very good at this.

I found the post amusing but I can see as a Mod it may not be quite as funny.

I believe it was a correct Mod decision. It is not their job to reformat posts and place them in the correct forums.

This kind of implies that Super Kapowzler was interested in the formatting or the answers, and I’m pretty sure neither one was even remotely the case. That was kind of the point.

Although he said ten questions, there were only seven; five were about the arts; two were about language. I think the Cafe Society would have been reasonable.

But it’s all about whether the SD tolerates this style of OP. I’m pretty sure that had this type of post been just one post of many in a thread (as SK and others have done before) it would not have attracted any attention.

Eh, I don’t particularly care to be called “bitches” even if it is his schtick. Why does he get a pass for a schtick that crosses the rules? Can I start calling everyone “monkeyface” in all my posts?

“Hey monkeyface, learn to mod correctly.”
“Monkeyface, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“What kind of a monkeyface are you?”

As far as closing the thread, this is in that area where really utterly pointless threads have been closed before, and we’ve had board fights over it. It’s a question of if there should be limits or not. I’m okay with the closing, but then I don’t find [del]monkeyface[/del] SuperK particularly interesting.

I thought the thread was funny and would have moved it to MPSIMS. I think it would have been a fun thread. I don’t see why so many people here get so outraged over nothing.

This board is full of too many humorless prigs, who take themselves way too seriously.

Also, I can’t believe anyone can’t tell the difference between someone angrily saying “You’re a stupid bitch, Dude!” and a party guy saying “Yo mah bitches, what’s up!?”
ETA: UNLEASH THE SUP-DUB!!

I would rather read the Super Kapowzler thread than the thread to find out how people wipe their ass…and shit.

No, he isn’t.

and yes it’s annoying.

I don’t either. If I can’t call someone a bitch outside of the pit then why does he?
